Can a 2013 8.4an be used in a 2016 truck?

The reason I ask is because I am swapping out my 8.4a to a 8.4an and I haven't had any luck finding an ra4 for a 2016. I found a 2013 and everything looks the same. Just a different part number. It shows 05091051ak instead of the 2016 I looked at brand new on oemautopartsco website which is 68238619AH. However on the bottom it does say interchangeable with the 0509105. So I'm thinking it will work. Also I've reached out to someone on another forum as well and he believes it will work.

I just want to make sure I'm not losing out on any features. Did anything change on the radio from 2013 to now? If so, as long as I update the software to current. Should I get all the features? This is important to me and why I'm swapping out my ra3 for an ra4 and not just paying to have nav activated.

Being that there are compatibility issues with using a 2016 radio in a 2013 truck, it wouldn't surprise me if there was a problem going the other way. The 2016 radios are much nicer than the 2013 ones. I'd personally rather have a 2016 RA3 with nav added than a 2013 RA4.

Dang, I am going to call in the morning and get them to cancel the order before it gets sent out. I cant find a dang 2016 ra4 anywhere!! Other than the one from oemautoparts for 1,000!!

The best advice I can give you is to just be patient. Mine still had the plastic on the screen and the Sirius trial had never been activated, so I got a year of music and 5 years of the travel link stuff. I paid either $525 or $550. So, the deals are out there.

Like 00/RTsaid they are hard to find but just be patient and check everyday. I found my 16 RA4 on ebay listed as a control screen for a 12 to 16 dodge ram. The starting bid was around 240.00 one other guy found it and bid on it but I won it for 320 shipped. It was out of a brand new 16 Limited. I was also able to get the free XM trial for one year with the Travel Link and Traffic for five years. Try all different types of searches on ebay with different wording. Another good place to check is Car- Part.com.

So what about a radio from a 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee. For the small price of $650 lol. Is there much difference between the 2015 and 2016? Can you still do the apple do not disturb and everything? does it matter if it's a regular Cherokee or grand Cherokee?

Also, the "Do Not Disturb" feature is separate from the one on an iPhone. All it does is automatically dismiss your calls instead of ringing them through the speakers and, if you have Android, it will auto-respond to incoming text messages.

15 has more stuff than 13 & 14, but 16 has the most. The big ones new for 16 are Drag & Drop menu bar and Sirius TuneStart. The 16 is also the first year that shows both the cargo and backup cam on the screen (if you have those options). Prior to 16 the backup cam image would be moved to the mirror if you got the cargo cam option.

No the 13 and 14 radios are pretty much the same. The 15 radio has different map and screen themes plus album art on XM. The 2016 radio has two more screen themes,do no disturbe feature with auto text reply if wanted,drag and drop menu icons and it also has the capability to always start songs at the beginning when you change channels on XM radio. There might be a few other things I'm forgetting but that's the basis of it. I have had all four different years and that's the main differences in the features I can recall. Myself and many others prefere the 16 because of the added features and the extra screen themes but they are a little harder to find. My biggest complaint with the 15 radio was none of the screen themes really fit the colors of the dash at night. The 2016 radio has a pretty blue screen that matches very well with the rest of the colors in the dash but that's just my preference.

Well I Found a radio out of a 2016 Cherokee. Pn 68258671AE. Pretty sure that's a common part number. So I should be all set.

Just in case anyone was wondering, put the radio in and all worked out good. The Jeep logo didnt even pop up, went straight to ram.

Oh yeah, i do, its awesome, so glad I upgraded to the 8.4an. I forgot how awesome hd radio sounds, plus the travel link and weather on the radio are handy.
