Al right so Im thinking about converting my Center console lower storage area into a sub box. I never use the compartment for anything (this truck has so many little cubby holes) so Im not going to miss it. I was wondering is anyone had tried this. The sub Im looking at is a JL Audio W0 10". It has a mount depth of 4 15/16" and recommends .65 cu ft for a sealed set up. BTW I was planning on a down fire set up, that way I can still utilize the center seat. Thanks guys.

I figure ill do like we do at work and hit all the hardware with silicone sealant to keep it tight. May have to do it anyway with these rough roads :Grenade:

That would be cool. I don't see why you couldn't. My brother has a Jeep Rubicon and the sub is at the bottom of the center console.

go for it man. There are center console boxes for the 3rd gens. so its a matter of taking the time to get all the measurements. I had a hotbox in my truck and a down firing box in that location sounds real good.

i had a 12" kenwood in my 02' . i took the whole bottom seat out and made a custom box to go there but i lost my center seat. I like your idea of downfiring and keeping the seat functional.

I was taking some rough measurements and I don't think there's enough space. Im only calculating about 750 cu in. and the sub I want to use recommends about 1150 cu in. Plus there's this black box on the right side under the console. Does anyone know what this is or if I can move it?

You might not need a shallow mount. Look at the specs of all speakers. Some could fit. The Alpine 12" I use only needs .75, well .9 minus the sub. But, the sub is a monster itself. I have A MTX that takes up less space, but needed more air space.

Dunno if you can do the same or not, but this is what I did in my 04. I put in a JL 13TW5 in it, sounded great for what I wanted. You would be surprised at the cabin gain in these trucks, the downfire loads really well..

After taking out the console, I removed the seat fabric which left me with the foam and metal bracket to make the mold.

Then I started covering it in foil and taping the seams..

Then you start the glassing process. First layer..

Second layer..

Once that cures, you would need to remover the bracket and foam, you wont need it anymore. I then started to reinforce the inside with MDF and more matting. BTW, remove the foil before you start the inside.

After approx 5-6 total layers of glass for the shell, make a template for the bottom plate and fasten with screws and more glass mat. I also started using the Bondo putty at this time.

Then more putty and time to cut the hole for the speaker..

After using the putty and sanding down (alot), the box starts to smooth out. I never had it perfectly smooth, didn't need to for it was gonna get covered anyway. I did paint it with a bit of texture paint for good measure though.
