Hi: I'm going to be dropping a slide-in truck camper onto the bed of my Longhorn which has backup warning sensors in the rear bumper. I'm concerned that when the camper slides in, and covers up my bumper and therefore the sensors, I'll create a constant warning signal.

Is this true or does the warning system timeout? Is there some soft switch that I can access to defeat the back up sensors?

Thanx .... Dan

Just turn them off with the button. Down by the tow haul button. I turn my front one's off in the snow and sleet.

^^Yep.... what he said. Hopefully, the camper doesn't block them though as with the camper on they would be extra useful. I love my sensors and especially the camera (which of course will be gone with the camper).

Actually, the camper hangs out beyond the bumper about a foot or so but does not cover up the sensors. I was thinking that even though the sensors are not covered up they would still react to the camper body overhang. Maybe, maybe not.

I guess I won't know for sure until I load it up for the first time. Glad there's a switch to defeat the sensors.

Regarding the camera, of course, it's in the tailgate and that's been removed but with my camper I have a third party backup camera unit installed. Would not leave home without it!

Thanx ..... Dan

Hi: Been looking for the "switch" that you referenced but could not find one. I've been away for a bit and just getting back to this problem. Any other ideas as to where I would defeat the backup alarm?

Thanx .... Dan

slightly different question but same topic, my new 2019 came with an option that every time you reverse there is a loud exterior beeping like you would have on a large moving truck or commercial truck, does anyone know how to disable this?

You got the back up alarm. Could probably just unhook it.

Could completely remove it if you like.

It should be back by the rear bumper by the frame

Here it is, and what's nice is that you don't have to turn it off every time you start the truck. Mine, front and rear, have been turned off since day one.

A backup alarm? Is that a dealer installed accessory?

You go into commercial settings on your instrument cluster, enter 0000 for the PIN (if you haven’t set up your own yet), and disable it there.

You can order the truck with it.

I would assume they can also install it after the fact.

Never knew that, just when I thought I knew all of the options.

Yeah, commercial settings if you have it, go to backup alarm and disable.

It is supposedly located above the spare tire.

Drop it and remove it or change the settings if you can.

I think alot of people have ordered this thinking it was the rear parking sensors.

And think they saved money
