I got the camera enabled on my 2015. When I bought my truck the tailgate was missing. The tailgate I bought from a salvage yard has the camera in it. I need to add the wiring in between. Does someone have access to schematics I'd like to build the harness.

My apologies I just seen the above post. :favorites13:

The 3rd link here has the basic schematics.

Installing OEM backup cam Post 10 LINKS
Thanks Ron.

@adum12,
The specific harness diagram you need for use with the schematics can be found (as linked in post 10 above) ...
Post 14 - Explanation of difference in Ram OEM Camera Kits vs JeepGuy's Custom Harness from Old thread. I also have a link to a 2014 Ram 2500 Factory Schematic with both Rear Cam & CHMSL Cargo Cam listed there as a reference.

Specific quote from post 14 ...

Important note:
The harness/pins are the same for both standard 2013+ 1500 trucks and 2500/3500 trucks ... However, the pin #'s change from pins 18,19, 20 (1500's w/i315 style connector) to 17,18,19 (some 2500's & up w/ other connector) depending on which connector the truck has at the footwell. The key is verifying which connector you have. See DannyMk2's post for pictures.

I'm going to use this post to keep track of my notes for re-routing the Mirror Backup Camera Signal over to the Radio for those that have the Mirror Cam from the factory.

References:
- bought a 5.0 uconnect head unit and need mic setup
- get rid of back up camera in mirror?

For those that have the factory backup cam in the mirror and want to upgrade to the "Manual Mirror & Mic' setup for the RA2+ trucks. You may need the mirror harness but probably not.
Optional parts
- 911/Assist AutoDimming Mirror: - 68096091AF (sales codes req'd)
. . . or RA2 style Manual Dim Mirror w/mics: - 68102484AA
. . . (Mirror Mount Covers if Needed: Upper - 1ZA38DX9AA and Lower - 1YW11DX9AA )
- Mirror Header harness: - 68207372AB

- 2013-2016 Ram Radio Removal 6-27-16.pdf
- 2013-2016 Ram RearView Mirror (w/mics) Upgrade & Harness install 7-8-16.pdf

All trucks with a factory backup camera (in mirror or radio display) have the 3 camera wires going though either an i315 (pins 18,19,20) or Inline-Body/IP connector (17,18,19) near the brake pedal (footwell).

- For trucks with the camera displayed on the radio, the 3 wires go straight from the appropriate footwell connector directly to the back of the radio (pins 31,32,33).

- For trucks with the camera displayed on the mirror, there is a "mirror jumper harness" that takes the 3 wires from the appropriate footwell connector over to the i340 Mirror Jumper connector (8,9,10) behind the passenger air vent. Then it goes straight up to the mirror's display.

So, for those that need to re-route the backup camera from the mirror to the radio have two options:

1) Re-route the 3 video signal wires from the i340 mirror connector (behind pass. air vent pins 8,9,& 10) over to the back of the radio (pins 31,32, & 33). You will need a custom harness with correct radio pins at a minimum to do this.
(I have located correct PN's for the pins)
or
2) Re-route the 3 signal wires earlier from either an i315 (pins 18,19,20) or Inline-Body/IP connector (17,18,19) over to the radio (31,32,33) with the exact same "cab harness" Jeepguy used for his camera kit.

NOTE: If you have a 2500/3500, you may already have wires for an optional "3rd Brake light/Cargo Cam" at pins 31,32,32 that would need moved/removed from the radio connector.
Post 51 - Some basic details about the 3 Cameras/Input pins on the 8.4 (RA3/Ra4) Radios for use with the "Lockpick" or the "Customtronix Jailbreak" software.

NOTE: Dealer installed backup camera wiring using either of the two "Official" Ram kits in post 10 is completely different.

Im having a tough time sourcing the terminals that were listed on the harness schematic. Where have guys had luck getting terminals?

This connector being referred to as the foot well location is this underneath the truck on the frame?

Once I get this all figured out I would gladly make harnesses for people.

Nexus Electronics and Mouser. Minimum order quantities are usually the issue.

The i315 connector is in the cab near the brake pedal. The c322 chassis connector is behind the left front wheel well's plastic shroud. Pictures can be found in the links via post 10.

It's great to help people out, but be careful about being seen as soliciting to sell/make harnesses for people without being a vendor.

Yeah thanks. I haven't checked yet but that console setup SowardCustoms posted may be a 2014 ra4 (vs 2016). I need to check my notes in the fw thread.
Edit: yep, 2014

As an FCA parts rep, I hope SowardCustoms didn't join just to sell stuff.

Yeah the one site you have to buy 5000 minimum to the tune of $2,800 ya rite.

And I never mentioned selling anything. . . So??

@Adum12 ,

You said you had the dealer flash the backup cam for you correct ?

If so your radio should have a blue or black screen with " check your surroundings " being displayed when you shift into reverse .

If you have the blue/blacks screen in reverse &
If you have a complete tailgate harness & camera inside the tailgate and an operating tailgate lock harness attatched to this connector under the truck near the center @ the tailgate ( with 2ea only wires though )

390ea2a840cbcebb717f32030e3bfb98.jpg

AND if yo also have an RA2 5.0" touchscreen or the RA3 -RA4 8.4" Touchscreen radio installed WITH wires already populated in sockets 31 , 32 & 33 like this ( bottom left 3ea wires )

231329292837ebe0bed5f488be1e7ad0.jpg

e0043fdc989dc80047e7c8374973b6b6.jpg

This is the radios listed above .
RA2 5.0"

536b2969e894b2f74d8582ca5c53d2ea.jpg

RA3 8.4" or RA4 8.4"

a6d4d803ba7d71a21c99f9df29fa5674.jpg

If you have the above items ( sockets 31,32,33 being populated is not a must ) we can get around that .

If your soldering skills on 18-22 ga. wire are up to par , then Sir I could walk you through connecting the 6ea wires from the tailgate disconnect to the (PDC) Power Distribution Center ,( BCM ) Body Control Module and ultimately to the back of the Radio for a 100% operational back up cam with the active gridlines for probably less than $50.00 in wire , solder and heat shrink tubing ....and about 3 hrs give or take of your time .

If your interested P.M. me here Sir .

I think adum is looking to build a jeepguy style harness from scratch himself to complete the 2 missing sections he has without paying for the full Ram oem add-on kit.
Sounds like he is comfortable doing it, just needs to source the terminals for the 4 ends.

I'm not real familiar with the jeepguy harness , I'm certinly not opposed to this style .

I do think it would be pretty easy to run the 6 wires from the tailgate disconnect fwd.

2ea to the PDC + ground under the hood

1ea to the BCM C-5 -45 for the active gridlines

And the other 3 to the radio 31,32,33

The only issue is if the radio doesn't have sockets already populated my way would require sourcing 3ea proper sockets to plug into the radios C-1 connector. .. and possibly another @ the BCM if C-5 -45 is not populated .

I've never seen the BCM wire not there on the backup cam kits I've installed , on the 2015 I did , the wire wes a different color but was there .

Exactly....

@sritter
Does that bare metal shield wire ohm out to the bare/camera shield wire at the radio with a meter ? ( pin 33)

Guys, sorry it's been so long, I just never got to it. I ended up switching to an aftermarket radio recently and yes those 3 wires go to the radio harness. Even with the aftermarket radio the camera didn't work with the appropriate adapter harness so I started digging around. It appears my truck came with all wiring for the camera except the body harness. I've attached a pic of where the wiring comes out of the tailgate and connects by the spare tire.

Well thanks for finally getting back to us. As it turns out, I have since found all the info to make the missing sections of the factory camera harness like JeepGuy1980 used to make. That info is in post 14.

On to you and DannyMk2's situation with the unique connector near the brake pedal see attached. It basically seems to be more common on 2500/3500 trucks and newer trucks with the adjustable pedals.

Something else I came to realize recently. All trucks with a factory backup camera (in mirror or radio display) have the 3 camera wires going though either an i315 (pins 18,19,20) or Inline-Body/IP connector (17,18,19) near the brake pedal (footwell).

Boom!

As I was planning my 8.4 radio conversion, I stumbled upon this thread and knowing how much a pain it is to try to hook a gooseneck trailer up to my 2016 Ram 2500 crew cab, I decided to tackle this upgrade at the same time. My initial plan was to make a harness by buying the OEM tailgate back up camera harness (Part# 68189124AB) stripping it down just to the camera connector and then extending it across the top of the header and down the passenger side "A" pillar. How to strip it down can can be found on other posts on the forum, but basically all you need from the harness is the white camera connector.

Once I got the extended harness to the "A" pillar I removed the ground from it and spliced it into the ground of the header wiring harness going up the passenger side "A" pillar. The ground circuit there was Z911 and that is the ground that was called for by the CHMSL camera schematic.

I then proceeded to route the 5 remaining wires in the harness behind the glove box using then same route that I used for the conversion harness. I took the three video wires and pinned them into slots 24,25,26 of the C-1 radio connector. I know that all other posts say to put them into 21,22,23 but the schematic for my 2016 specifically said 24,25,26.

I then routed the remaining 2 wires (power and Lin Bus) across to the driver side where I thought I was going to splice them into connector I220. At that point I realized that I220 was actually not located inside the cab. I felt defeated lol. I knew I could get the correct Lin Bus CBC3 at the BCM but I didn't know how in the heck I was going to get to it and splice it and I didn't have a source for the F923 power circuit. I retreated and gave up for a few days, bought a few more days on tech authority and went looking for a new location for the Lin Bus CBC3 and the F923 power.

After a few hours of looking at schematics I came across connector I440 that is located in the "C" pilllar on the drivers side right above the seat belt. Low and behold it had both the F923 power and Lin Bus CBC3 in it and better yet they were not pinned coming out the other side of the connector. I realized I could pin two wires into this connector and run it up to the camera to finish my installation. Now only to find the terminals. I had dug through Yazaki catalogs, and eventually found that I needed terminal number 7116-4110-02. Both the power and Lin Bus required a 2.8mm terminal and not a 1.5mm terminal. I searched the internet and could not find anyone that would sell me this terminal in a small quantity. I relented and went to the dealer hoping they may have a couple or have a repair kit…. No dice. I had relented to the fact that I may have to splice the wires which I really didn't want to do. As a drove home from the dealer, it struck me that I had the remnants of my header wiring harness that I pulled out of the truck when I did my 8.4 conversion. I knew it was a yazaki connector. Sure enough a cross reference of the two connectors showed that they used common terminals. I depinned two of the wires, ran them from the I440 connector up to the chmsl, tore apart my harness at the chmsl, and spliced these two wires in. I then pinned the Lin Bus CBC3 wire into slot 5 of the I440 connector and the F923 power into slot 6.

Success finally…. Off to the dealer to get code "LPD" flashed so that the cargo cam button would show up on my 2016 RA4. No luck, that code is not available for my VIN. Once again, defeat. I called Chrysler and tried to plead my case, no dice. Only thing left to do, jailbreak. I decided to go with customtronix as they can just make the button appear on the screen for the 2016s. It was a really clean solution to me. Looked completely factory. The only thing that was wrong is that they expected the cargo cam inputs to be in slots 21,22,23 of the radio C-1 connector and mine was in 24,25,26. Right now it thinks it's the front cam, but I will get that fixed soon.

So in summary, this is the way I pinned my setup to make it all work correctly.

Camera Pin --> Terminated To
1 Z911 Ground --> Spliced to ground of passenger side A pillar harness (Z911)
2 Lin Bus CBC3 --> I440 pin 5
3 F923 Power --> I440 pin 6
4 Camera Shield --> Radio C-1 pin 23
5 Camera Return --> Radio C-1 pin 22
6 Camera Signal --> Radio C-1 pin 21

I have some pictures of the I440 connector that I will post as soon as I figure out how to. Hope this long winded post helps someone else out.

What crimper are you using on these style pins & sockets Sir ?

Does it take multiple crimps to secure the wire end and the crimped area of the wires insulation?

Thanks

It'll be interesting to see if I have the I440 connector in my regular cab 1500. If so, I'll have to modify my strategy a bit. But, it will make things easier. I also sourced the camera connector from a tailgate jumper. I then soldered it to some 6 conductor cable I bought. My intention was to run it up under the dash and then split it where my backup cam harness splits.

Boom!

Here's a picture of the I340 connector. You can see the 3 video wires on the top in the middle. The bare shield gives there location away.

I have a 2013 Dodge Ram (Express, I think). I have installed the complete tailgate camera and wiring harness from FallsMoparCity. I have a Kenwood DNX6990HD for the headunit
I get a display with the grid lines and the grid lines move with the steering wheel, however, the display is extremely dark, even in the bright sunlight. I have attached an image to show this...

Any thoughts?
Chris
