@ jsampsell , remember to check the settings in Preview , you may just need to turn the Active gridlines on
Or update the radios software ( RA2 5.0") to install the Active gridlines option .

Hope this helps , and good job on the install Sir , I've yet to install this kit with the Amp in the way . Not looking forward to it though .

I have the 8.4A radio and had already updated the Uconnect software. I checked to see if the grid lines were in the settings and the only thing new in the settings related to a camera is the ParkView Backup Camera Delay option in the Safety & Driving Assistance submenu. I'll check my connection at the C5 soon enough. I'd prefer that the grid lines are there but can certainly live without them if I can't get them working.

Well, I finally found a RA4. It was delivered today and I installed it tonight. Everything works perfect, EXCEPT...I still don't have the parkview settings!! So I checked the C5 connection, AGAIN, and ran a leader from the C5 connection back to the tailgate to check the resistance and everything checks out. I want to say there's something the AE tool is missing that is activated by the actual sales code, but @jsampsell had the sales code flashed and he has the same issue...I was really hoping the RA4 would fix this issue, but oh well, at least I have a bigger screen now and a lot of extras over the RA2!

PS:
Got my front camera (Amazon) in the mail today. Now if I can get a good day to install it (apt parking lot is not ideal)96a6cc1aefae8246c9b455434dfdf57a.jpg

Edit: The above Esky Camera is causing interference with the rear Tpms sensors (433mhz) on my truck (2013) and had to be disconnected.

Finally knocked out the last half of my front camera install (almost a month later).

Tapped the backup camera at PDC C7-13 for power

Mounted the camera in the grill
Had to trim the opening to get a proper angle with this square camera and drill some holes (Not my best work, but it will do for a parking lot install.)

Some notes:
- A round camera with adjustable lense would be ideal, or perhaps the front emblem camera from CustomTronix
(looks very good and no rigged mounting)

EDIT: if you want to get parts to make your own, see my post in JRam5.7's Front Camera thread post 10

- I choose this Esky HD Car Front / Rear View Backup Camera because it has a configuration button that lets you change the camera orientation (no worries about how you mount it), turn the grid lines on/off, and adjust grid line width size. Unfortunately it's not well suited to mounting inside the grill. (not recommended... TPMS interference!)

- It takes awhile to get used to the Customtronix RAx's auto front camera feature (Below 12mph).

- Unfortunately (2013-2015 trucks) you can't turn on either camera at will. It only works while in drive or reverse (below 12mph) currently (perhaps my RAx software load is messed up, I expected the front cam to work at any time).

<< UPDATE >> 13-15 8.4 Radios on v17.11.17 only! can use both the backup cam and cargo cam (ie front cam input?) via menu buttons. 2016-2018 8.4 radios support both cams on all sw versions currently. See Post 51 for additional info

** It's likely possible to enable the cameras at any speed if you disconnect the Lin Bus CBC 3 signal (C5/E -45 @ BCM) but you lose the
backup camera active grid lines. (Not verified yet)

*** It should be possible to put a normally open relay across the CBC 3 signal with the reverse signal as a trigger to fix the above issues.
(Not tested/verified, see post 911 for details )

Thanks. You can get complete RAx kits from CustomTronix with software, cameras, radio harness, etc.

That fat RCA cable connector was a pain to get through the firewall boot.

Fwiw , I too found the rubber boot nipple to be very dificult.
I eventually just drilled a hole in the plastic clutch plate cover to the right of the boot , installed a rubber grommet and ran my wires for the back up cam through it . I then sealed it with Proseal.

When I install my front camera I'll be running it through the same clutch plate .

Hope this helps someone.

Agree with going through the clutch plate. I tried working a long screwdriver through the existing hole in the boot, but it was so kinked up I couldn't get it through there. Going through the clutch plate was much simpler.

Has anyone done this on a 17 yet? I have 2017 with 5.0. Don't have the camera options in my settings so assuming I'll need a flash. I was going to do it myself but have a shop that said if I buy a kit online they will install it for cheap.

Assuming it can't be much different from a 16. Most of the kits I've seen don't even list 17 yet but I'm guessing it's no different.

No one has done it yet, or posted about it if they have. My brief glance at the 2017 schematics doesn't give me the impression that it's changed, but I'm not 100% on that. Maybe someone will chime in.

Costs:
@ $250-$320 Mopar backup camera kit (2013-2016 trucks).. . Should work on 2017
@ $100+ separate shop install charge
@ $75-$140 1hr labor rate charge at dealer to enable XAC camera sales code

So about $535 or so of you don't do the install yourself, should be about that for the dealer to do it all and be fully accountable.

I'm sure an outside shop can install an aftermarket tailgate Camera kit for less (but so could you), but it won't have the active grid lines.

I have the opposite situation. My 2017 Tradesman has the rear view camera from the factory. The radio is a 3.0 std. so the image is in the rear view mirror. Would like to upgrade to the 5.0 and put the image in the radio. Is there a harness available to transfer the camera signal in the mirror harness connector at the right hand edge of the dash to the radio connector?

This is a simple mod my friend and very easy to do .
Just contact Mpgrimm2 with M2Mods just above your post , I'm pretty sure he can square you away with the harness you require .

Here's a link to M2Mods harness you need to reroute the backup cam video signal from the mirror to your RA2 , RA3 or RA4 Radio .

I'm around (in Norman, OK), just not taking any new requests until after the 18th when I get back to SC.

I do have the terminals to make what Kabong needs though. There is also a manual mirror with mics for the 5.0 upgrade in the for sale section of he doesn't have that as well.

If I remember correctly, someone here solder spliced into the 3ea wires located in the connector behind the passenger's side air vent and then routed the appropriate 3ea wires to the radios C-1 connector @ locations 31 , 32 & 33 and had the backup cam video displaying on both the mirror and the radio .
However , this ^^^^^ application would not give the microphones on the mirror and enable full Bluetooth capabilities. ..... maybe the guy who did this ran a separate microphone kit ?

Anyway if someone is in need I have a manual dim mirror with microphones , I plan on selling in the future .

Do you just want the mirror's camera signal rerouted to the back of the radio area with an RCA plug for an aftermarket radio setup?

If so, I already have the parts to do it once I get back. PM me.

Thanks for checking. I might just do it myself. The one shop didn't get back to me and another I checked said about 500 for the kit installed but would without dealer flash.

There are aftermarket kits from PaC and Crux that have a module that plugs in and enables the backup cam without a dealer flash. Downside is that it won't have the active (turning) grid lines. You won't miss them if you never had them but once you do you won't want it without em.
