Default Kenwood head Unit and retain all factory controls And Full System Install
So for the last year I was happy enough with my 5.0 to 8.4" screen conversion. But the audio was never good with the factory units. It's very muddy so it was time to upgrade.

I know for a lot of people the hesitancy to going aftermarket was that they would lose control of some of their factory menus like door locks, lights, etc....Well not anymore

I installed a Kenwood DNX893s head unit with an iDatalink Maestro module and was amazed how much better the sound was and I still had all factory menus and rear view camera plus the front view camera that I installed on my truck.

As you can see in the pics I also can control the HVAC on the screen just like factory or use the regular Factory buttons. if you have heated seats etc they will automatically show up on this screen too.

I discovered that Scosche made a replacement bezel for our trucks to fit a standard 7" double din radio. Which made the install fit perfectly and look factory

This is the iDatalink module that you need for retaining the factory interface and I can even program what the radio buttons on the back of my steering wheel do.

For example, the button on the right of steering wheel I have volume up and down of course. But I programmed the center button to Mute when I quick press it and when I hold it for 2 seconds it turns my front view camera on the screen so I can pull up close when parking in a tight spot

The idatalink module you need is here

And the CH3 wiring harness for our trucks is here

To use that Scosche install kit if you have the manual HVAC controls you will need to do the 5.0 to RA4 conversion which you will find from other threads to convert to the auto controls seen here.

Then to retain your factory USB hub in the center console I had to buy this Uram replacement circuit board which repaces the stock board and looks factory

Great write up! Thanks for all the info. I think it's a little above my skill level but I love the idea of upgrading and adding a front camera, plus you programmed the buttons to control that, Sweet!

Doesn't take that much skill. Just basic mechanical ability.

Most all of it is bolt on and plug in. the only wires you have to connect is the usual speaker wires between the kenwood and the the CH3 harness which you can do on your desk before the install. And they are color coded just put like colors together. Except for a couple wires that are different color just read instructions. Then go plug everything in and connect USB cable to maestro module and go to their website and download the firmware for your truck options

Oh yea forgot to mention the SirusXM tuner. You need to buy the SVX300 tuner and stick it behind your dash then that plugs into your stereo to control it. Uses the factory antenna too
