I have the Alpine 8.4 and the volume max's out at 38. Is there something I'm missing? Can it go louder? thinking 38 is a oddball number to be at max.

that has nothing to do with the decibels coming out. if there was no number and it was just the slider bar you probably wouldnt be questioning it anyways. some radios go to 20, some 50, some 100 it all depends on how/who designed it.

38 has to be above the loudness the factory speakers can take, mine distorted around 24 before I upgraded them ?

My aftermarket tops at 38'as well. If it isn't loud enough.for you, some upgrades can probably fix that. I can't go much more than 22 without fear of going deaf or blowing out speakers. I usually run 18 tops and its a concert in my truck.

I must be deaf cuz I need more! Why not make the volume indication 0-100? 38 kinda odd ball.

They set it up to have a good spread from one level to the next. If it were 0-100 you'd likely have to jump several numbers to make a small difference. Kind of pointless

Wish mine had some volume, meaning loudness, it gets all distorted way before
