This will be a log of my custom install in my 2012 sport crew cab. This will be to help me stay focused since my ADD has me jumping from project to project leaving everything in a cluster F#$k. Hopefully I will be able to learn a few things along the way and possibly help some people out with their own installs...thats what forums are for, right?

The goal:
-First and foremost I want it to sound CLEAN and loud. Is there really any other way to listen to music?
-Keep everything as factory as possible. (this is a new concept for me)
-Everything custom 1 off and implementing a few tricks ive always wanted to try. LEDs, plexiglass, fiberglass etc. (I know, not factory at all but it will be hidden under the seat so kinda still stealthy. Maybe. well see)

Equipment
-AVH-X4600Bt
-DLS Iridium 8.3i- 3 way components with 8" mids (big speaker little hole)
-Undecided rear 6x9 replacement yet
-JBL MS-A1004...100x4
-JBL MS-A500...500x1
Class D amps with built in digital processing, very small foot print 7"x7"
-The infamous DIYMA R12 (big speaker little hole) Ive always wanted one of these and never found one until I owned a vehicle it shouldnt fit in...a truck

Read about it here... if you care

DIYMA 12" Sub CLEARANCE ... until supplies last - Car Audio | DiyMobileAudio.com | Car Stereo Forum

the beauty in question...

just about 7" deep
2145BB1F-17ED-4AFE-9014-14FECC438436_zpsoctdvzdp.jpg

The issue comes in the width of the magnet... ~8.5"
1FF45A01-0D26-4A59-9D06-EED99F89B565_zpszsrkslig.jpg

we all know the little hole it needs to fit in...$hitty pic

I made 3 baffles to test fit and see how much i need to raise seat and move sub etc etc..

comes close but does not fold down with 3 baffles and no spacers under seat yet...

Space with only 2 baffles

Thats all for now. I will fiberglass the bottom of the enclosure then determine if i need 2 or 3 peices of thickness. After that I will work on squeezing the 8" midbass in the fron doors. and I promise pics will be better quality from here on out

If youve made it this far, thanks for reading

I made a fiberglass box for my 2004 quad, it was really easy. Just make sure you get the resin to hardener mixture right. I didn't the first few times. The container got really warm and got rock hard in a matter of minutes lol. But looks great! I got lazy and bought a pre-made box for my 2012 crew.

How much air space are you going to have in that box? Don't forget to calculate the displacement of the sub itself. From the T/S parameters listed on the link to the sub you gave, you really need to give this 1-1.25 cubic feet for it to work properly.

I am running a box with 3 layers of 3/4" MDF. I just made the top layer about 4" short from the back of the first 2. Allows the seat to function and still provides enough space for my Solobaric to fit.

You can see it here:

Maybe this one is better:

I was aiming for 1ft^ but if i use 3 baffles i will have a little more than that..after displacement

Thats pretty brilliant. Ill have to calculate the airspace id lose if i take that route but will def look into it .

Pulled out and edges trimmed a little

Resin I had on hand didnt cover as far as i thought it would so some spots you see are the matt that didnt soak enough resin. Next few layers will take care of it.

last night while i was at lowes getting more matt and resin, it hit me...

I needed another attic door in my garage?!:wtf:
ADD strikes again. So layed a few more layers on the sub box and sealed the edges then started cutting up my house...

Aaaaaand thats where im at now. Got the last few peices parts in so I plan on having my amps and components installed by end of the weekend so next updates will be how i squeeze 8" mids in the doors. As long as i dont determine i need to add another kitchen in my kitchen or some dumb Bull$hit.

I'll bet that will sound great. I bought the JL Audio stealthbox, and I was not impressed with the sound. I returned it a week later. I just hate to lose much space under the rear seat.

Update:

Well i had forgotten that sunday was easter so i didnt get nearly as much done as i had hoped. Finished the attic door so i could clean up my garage. Got all wires ran from dash and doors to rear seat where amps will be. Finished up power and ground for amps as well.

I didnt want to start on door speakers until i knew I would have time to complete them because i didnt want to be without tunes or doorpanels for any amount of time. So got some more accomplished on sub box...

sub weight 37 lbs so box has to be strong. I think 4 layers is enough...

back edges sealed air tight with resin...

Done up with some deadener for added mass and to decrease any resonance. Sucker starting to get heavy...

Sanded edges down so next baffle will fit flush. Can also see the thickness of the fiberglass...

Will end up with 3 baffles of thickness and will have to raise back seat about 3/4". Should have box ready for carpet, paint LEDs and lexan by the weekend. Stay tuned

Now to start on beauty panel... Still waiting for lexan to come in so could only do so much. Gonna stay a secret until then.

Routered back so it sits flush with speaker and top baffle

Boogered up one little spot, gonna hit that part with a 1/2" rounded router bit and hopefully it will clean it up

Maybe the weekend before there's anymore progress on the box. Need carpet and lexan sheets.

Will try and do the door speakers before then.

Did work this weekend. Goal was to raise rear seats, install mids in door, dash, and tweets in sail panels and crank the bish up!

Spacers are a 3/4" and 1/2" MDF board screwed togetrher and carpeted

Then it was time to bust these doors in the a$$

Heres the speaker ring against stock speaker baffle. Now i know where i need to cut

1285294F-10B6-4A0F-A5A5-7D7C5355100B_zpsudqheo7n.jpg

3.5" grinder made quick work of that plastic...hence the towel stopping melted plastic from flying in the truck

325FF12A-7A27-4C33-BAEC-66C3F32E3C61_zpsh3441qhn.jpg

This is actually the other door but it shows how the ring was mounted to the door

576A1F71-34B2-4397-8262-12955487A810_zpsqhn9zjpn.jpg

Now this obviously is not an acceptable enclosure for a speaker. We need to make it air tight and what i use, and have used with good results in the past...

501AE4D6-D945-43AA-9F52-89F5FBDB7EA9_zpssoucocrx.jpg

Not only does it seal, it adds weight and mass to the door. which is always good.

4AFBE71D-E541-40A8-BC82-E21DF1BBCF4F_zpsyclbceae.jpg

Then i use sound deadener to add more mass and to hold the weatherstrip on eventhough its tacky and hold itself pretty well. better safe than sorry

Deadened panels while they were off

2822FB1C-CE08-4AE9-805C-6740948DF2C8_zps24p5cioi.jpg

Got speaker wire into the door from amps under rear seat. (PITA btw!!) Got lazy and just spliced into factory wires to run to the tweetersr since they will be run off the head unit.

7F0503D0-6EAC-46CA-B67D-7FC0049C51AB_zps4esezlcg.jpg

I didnt realize it til i tried to put the door panel on but there was a loop that the panel clips to on the side of the factory speaker baffle. :banghead::banghead: Well, now theres an 8" woofer there so had to cut 1 clip off the door panel

next is the tweets and dash mids... nothing drastic here.

Except that I never looked under the grill in the dash to see what i was working with and the effin bigass DLS mids dont fit!!:****sweak:

Knew dash speakers were 3.5"...DLS are 3.5" so I just assumed theyd work but are too big for the hole, ring around the speaker is way too wide. Not chopping up the dash so i ordered something else. DLS mids are hooked up but just sitting in the corner of the dash for now looking ghetto as fawk...

Well, the DLS tweeters i had came with no grills and were a little beat up looking so I bought these...

The Madisound Speaker Store

I remember having heard them a while back and sound so crip and detailed i always wanted to get a set of my own.

Now im gonna sell the mids and tweets so i wanted to spare the crossovers to help get rid of them. Luckily i had a pair of passive crossovers i was going to use for a home audio project that never took off.

So now the plan is use that to cross the tweets to play 5K hz and up.
8" and 3.5" will be ran active using processing capabilities of the JBL amps
8"s will play from 60Hz up to 450 or so. 3.5" play from 450hz to 5K where tweeters take over. Still messing with it so this may change

Finally, after a few set back its making noise. really upset the dash speakers dont fit because it sounds FREAKIN AWESOME!! Highs are super crisp and not harsh at all. I listen to a lot of metal and hard rock and i like to feel the kick drums, and the 8s in the doors do not disapoint. Also i am super impressed with the JBL amps. Plenty of clean power and adjustibility...

JBL - MS-A1004

Its like having a digital processor only built into the amp You can program each channel to run any specific frequency range. A stand alone DSP could be well over $600 and i got 2 amps for $200 each. Still tuning and trying to get it to sound perfect. Ill work on getting a video and see if i can capture the sound quality (although it will only sound as good as what u watch the video on)

New mids should be in by the weeks end. I should have the sub bumping by tuesday then ill finsh making it all pretty afterwards. Thanks for reading if ur still hangin in there.

Awesome!!! I can't believe you fit 8s in the doors and only had to cut 1 clip. How bad does it rattle with that clip missing?

Yes, neo motors are quite attractive. Too bad I can't install it where it can be seen.

As for the panel, I haven't heard any rattles yet. Although I was a bit concerned. There are 2 others clips in pretty close proximity so I think that helps.
