I have a 2014 Ram 1500 and got really good reception on radio for a long time. However, for the last few months it has been really bad. I live about 50 miles from Knoxville,Tn and used to pick up their fm stations great but now its noisey and a lot of interference on it. Also local am is weak now at 8 to 10 miles. Anyone have this trouble before and know what's happened? I have basic radio. Thanks

Hi jack375,

Are you still within your basic 3/36K mile basic warranty? Your dealership may need to look at the antenna if the reception has become so poor.

No, I've got 50K on it. I would change the antenna and cable but not sure how much trouble it would be to get new cable in.

I to have a ram 2014 1500 and the Am radio reception is awful! I just bought the truck a couple of months ago and still have a month to go on the basic warranty. Fm radio is not that great either. Don't know if it's possible to have a software update for this issue or not. I wonder if this has been improved since 2014.

My 2014 I bought new started the same thing a few months back. We removed the kick panel and tried to check the wire plug in. Without removing more trim we could only touch it. The radio got good reception intermittently but returned to poor reception and range again. I suspect the wire is not long enough as it is stretched tight coming thru the firewall and probably not making a good connection.

I also have a 2014 1500 ram truck, I'm happy with the performance of the truck, But the radio sucks big time. Any ideas how to fix this problem? I'm considering in getting a new Not ram truck .

I wonder if moisture has somehow gotten into the connector to the head unit or i suppose the antenna. the antenna is the antenna and I can't see how anything would change with that unless shortened or damaged. possible moisture can get into the base of the antenna? look for corrosion somewhere. even just a dulling of metal might be an indicator.

Have you tried hitting the top of the dash above the radio stack? I'm not kidding.

Before my 2018 Big Horn I had a 2015 Big Horn. The AM radio reception had a fair amount of static. One day, on a lark, I slapped the top of the dash above the radio stack. The static vanished and the radio reception was crystal clear! The static would come back occasionally so once again, I would hit the dash. The static would go away. Hmmm...

I videotaped this "repair" because I was going to show it to the dealer. I believe this was done with my previous phone, but I think I still have the videotape. If I can dig it up, I'll try to post it.

Found it!

HA HA HA HA HA HA!!

My 2013 8.4 radio and 2015 8.4an both get crap reception, worst of any vehicle I ever had. Also is weather dependant, if cloudy reception is just OK, on clear days is terrible. Seen a lot of posts about bad reception on these trucks. I been thinking about adding a fakra antenna booster, they cost under $20, I just haven't tried it yet.
