Has anyone got the RA4 upgrade from infotainment?

I am looking into it but I have the smaller uconnect radio. I'm not to fond of the idea of getting a bezel with a separate volume knob. So I found a bezel on eBay, not sure if will work. Has anyone else tried this upgrade?

Theres a whole thread about this upgrade in the DIY section. It's stickied to the top so you cant miss it. I suggest looking through that. It tells you everything you need to know, but if you have specific questions, post in that thread and you should get a quick answer. In regards to the upgrade from infotainment, it seems way overpriced. I did the RA4 upgrade about a month ago and I'd say total cost was about $800.

Read through all of the sticky nothing really pertained to that upgrade. Especially with one using upgraded bezels. Gonna have to either buy Jerzeys or deal with infotainments custom bezel.

Since the 4spd one is mixed in there kind of confused, is the upgraded bezel the same plug? Seems to basically have the same exact features as the three knobs lol!

I have the 7spd fan sorry for the mix up

The RA3/4 have hvac controls through the radio as well as through the bezel, but I dont think the stock 3 knob bezel would allow the RA3/4 radio to access the hvac controls. So you would have to upgrade the bezel with either the referenced bezel in the DIY thread or the infotainment bezel to have full functionality of the radio. The 4 speed and 7 speed conversions use the same bezel, but the wiring harness is a little different.

Ok so I get that bezel from eBay. A radio as well. The harness kit from Mod2 and pretty much set. Radio is also plug and play? Oh and the antenna fooler plug. I like the idea of having a seek knob as well with that bezel over the infotainment one.

Ok and it's looking like the module as well. If I opt out of the extended harness and decide to put it below in the dash I still need a harness correct? Where can I get the standard length?

Yes you will need everything you just listed including the harness, either extended or standard length. I'd shoot Mpgrimm2 a PM about the harness. I know he makes the extended length, not sure about standard length.

Ok well got the bezel for $80. HVAC module is $126 dang! I'll keep looking around for a better price.

My worry is getting a radio from eBay and it being locked or something. I can get any random ra3 and it will plug in and be fine? I don't want the fancy nav or any of that I'm fine with the RA3.

Best price I've seen lately for the hvac module is $118, here. Think I paid $110 for mine.

I would check car-part.com for the radio. This is where I found mine. It's a database of scrap yards. Got my 15 RA4 for $545. Not the best price I've seen, but also not the worst and a lot cheaper than Ebay. There are some RA3s on there for as low as $195. Just look at the part rating. If it's not an "A" I wouldn't buy it. And don't necessarily go by the pictures they have. A lot of them show dirt/mud on the interior, but most of the time if it's an "A" rating, it's in better shape than what the pic shows (if the pic is of it still in the vehicle). And most of the yards have a warranty period, so you can send the part back if you get it and something is wrong. Also, the site will pull up radios from non-RAM vehicles, but what you need to look at is the part number for the radio. If you put the part number into this site, it will tell you whether the radio is a RA3 or RA4. Lastly, I would always email the yard and ask for pictures of the front and back of the radio. This allows you to verify the condition and the part number of the radio.

Additionally, the radiocode website allows you to buy the security code for the radio for $10. You will need the code to activate the radio once it's installed in your truck. Some people have had luck getting this from the dealer, but I didn't even attempt going through mine just based on past experience with them adding sales codes for my backup camera.

Yep the upgrade to the RA4 8.4NA is the way to go imo .

Since you already have the RA2 5.0 touchscreen radio , then you should already have the mirror with microphones. So basically with the 7 speed blower this is what you need .
1) Radio 8.4" preferred RA4 8.4AN

2) HVAC Module

3) 8.4" Bezel ( single zone Prefered

4)conversion harness ( long Prefered ) this accommodates the factory install location.

5) 911 delete plug

All a simple plug n play with lots of help within the conversion thread if needed .

Hope this helps !

RA3 will work the same as the RA4. Think he's just saying most people prefer the RA4 over the RA3 due to the additional features.
