That's why I said don't go blabbing about having it immediately after an accident. Just like you don't volunteer information to the police. This way you can review it, or let your lawyer review. And if you are at fault, EJECT YOUR CARD AND DESTROY IT! :roflsquared:

Your not a cop are you, that sounds like the same thing they do with their dashcams when they film themselves doing something wrong magically the dashcam "malfunctions" or the tape "accidentally got erased or lost.

:flipthebird: Troll much?

I will tell you exactly why. I recently installed the A118 Full HD 1080P Dash Cam. The reason, asinine drivers. See my signature, that's my families entire life behind our truck. The dash cam is peace of mind for all those turds who cut me off, run a red light, stop sign, etc. I'm pulling a trailer and have a shorter stopping distance and A*Holes will still pull in front of me when coming to a stop just so they can be closer to the red light.

Why won't a GoPro work? Well I have a Hero 3+ Black Edition, it won't work. Terrible freaking battery life, won't automatically start recording on vehicle start up, no impact sensor, no saving locked files, no way to continuously record.

The dash cam I have runs on 12V, it starts recording when the ignition turns on, it holds a 32gb card and records in 3 minute clips it saves to the card. It can auto-write over the card continuously forever without me touching it.

It has one button that lets me push it and lock the previous 6 minutes so they aren't over-written. Has an G sensor that detects impact and automatically locks the past 6 minutes.

Unlike the GoPro it has night vision and works in the dark. Has a wider view angle than the GoPro, also has GPS which it writes to the files, should you need that information too.

It's called peace of mind in a world of asinine drivers, crooked cops, and sleezy lawyers.

And why would someone need a radar detector? Because crooked cops and municipalities that are equally crooked. Just read about this one FL city: This Florida Speed Trap Could Be The Worst In The Country

A city that goes out of it's way to purposefully create speeding tickets.

I think the reasons are justified.

PS: THANK YOU to the OP, this is great, I have not hard wired mine up yet, but I will be doing so now! Great article.

Couldn't agree more... on all points.

I've been using a dash cam for a few years now, and the power wire hanging down has always bothered me. Thanks OP for a great write-up. This is definitely something i'll be doing very soon for my cam.

Yep, I wired my dash cam to the mirror, too. Takes all of a couple minutes... I turned my cig lighter plug into the 12v to 5v regulator and double-sided-taped it to the back of the mirror. You can't even see it sitting in the cab, and from the outside it looks clean. :favorites13:

I was referred to this thread for the removal of the plastic trim pieces around the rear-view mirror for the mounting of my Escort Max 360 and it helped. The wiring harnesses are a bit different on my 2018 but at least the wiring colors stayed the same where the black is the ground, and the pink w/yellow tracer wire is the ignition-switched 12v.

Thank you for this write up. It's going to save me a ton of time when I install my dash cam this weekend.

Do you have a link for the exact one you have and any special mount?

I searched A118 but looks like couple different models

I have an A118 and an A119 and they both work great. The latest model is the A119S with supposedly better video quality. But either of these previous models has very good video.

So I removed the mirror from the nut, did the wiring, but for the life of me can’t get the mirror back on the nut, I know it’s just spring pressure but does anybody have an easier method for getting the back on the nut?

So how did you get the big plastic part off?? I got the upper neck part but not the part hiding the wires? One of those deals how hard to pull and which way so not to break it

I know this is a bit late but really appreciate this thread thank you very much for posting. I am installing a dash cam. I did not spread larger plastic cover (yellow arrows, then gently pull out as noted by the red arrow) before removing the smaller piece and broke the tabs. I am having a difficult time locating a replacement for that smaller of the two plastic trims. The larger trim then just pulls straight down to remove it.tempImagetPdcTT.png

Update: Bought the top piece from the dealer, cost just shy of $9.00. Now trying to remove the side trim panel of the driver's side dashboard. Before I do that I think I will call the dealership and make sure that I can buy a replacement trim panel. The way things are going very time I try to remove something it breaks...sigh.
