i got a used 5.0 and put it in place of my 3.0, it worked great other than it only played sound through the rear speakers, and with the volume on 0 the radio is silent and when with the volume on 1 its damn near full blast, lol, and then if you turn off the truck and turn it back on the sound is completely gone, so my question is:

Is the 5.0 able to be a direct swap from a 3.0? is the radio messed up or is something in the truck keeping it from working properly, my truck is a 2013 and the donor radio came out of a 2014

The 3.0 to 5.0 swap is very doable. Many have done this with zero issues. I have heard of this happening before in some rare instances. Some belive that it is possible if the 5.0 installed came out of a chassis cab or a regular cab truck and is installed in a Quad or Crew Cab truck It may not recognize that your truck has four speakers instead of two. It could also just be a defective radio. I would recommend sending it back if you can and trying another radio. There are subtle differences between the 13 and 14 trucks. We are learning more and more as time goes on. I haven't heard of a 14 5.0 radio in a 13 being an issue but just to be safe you may want to try to find a radio out of a 13 Quad or Crew Cab if one is readily available, if not at least make sure it is out of a 4 door truck. In all of the posts I have seen the problem was corrected by installing another radio. Good luck.

mine is a 2 door truck and this one came out of a 4 door if im not mistaken...

the thing that gets me is that the radio completely quits playing any sound once the truck is turned off and restarted
