Hey guys, I have a bit of an issue here, hoping you guys can help out...
So, I recently bought my 2015 Ram 1500 Big Horn, with the center console and 8.4 Uconnect entertainment system... I was getting ready for a trip I took today by putting a long list of songs in a USB so that I can play back while on my trip, and was excited about it, since i was going to be driving alone... Anyway, so I start driving this morning, and listening to my music, and changing folders, as I had separated the songs into folders... everything is fine for the first couple of hours... Then, I hit the Shuffle button, and immediately clicked on the browse button. i tried browsing through the folders but could not select anything, so i tried skipping songs and nothing happened.all of a sudden, my music was playing but I could not skip or change tracks. and then that song ended and the next ne started but the screen still had the original son on it. I unplugged the usb and [;ugged it right bnack and the radio would not read it. My EVIC also read, No Media... I try this for a few times, and no success... I even stopped and turned off the truck, openned the door and closed it, and restart, and nothing... I let it rest thinking it would fix itself, but then when i tried to play the music again, the song would start, but I still would have no access to change the song. The EVIC still read no media, even tho the song was playing. I am at a loss here, and dont know whats going on or how to fix it... Any Ideas?

I would try pulling the radio fuse in the harness under the hood to forcefully reset the unit.

If not wipe your USB drive or try another one. I've had mixed results with larger drives in my truck and some from my collection it flat out just wont play nice with. So much so that I have a specific old 4GB drive solely used for updating uConnect software on the RAM and the Challenger because they gave me so many headaches with other drives.

Hi DRE_MEX,

Here are a few of the tips we give regarding USBs--maybe one of these will help!

- 32 GB Max (will not read over 32 GB)
- No password or encrypted USB flash drives
- All music must be in .MP3 or .WMA format
- Pictures must be in .jpeg format (not .jpg)
- Picture size 240x158 pixels
- Music from iTunes is not a compatible format (MP4 or AAC)
- Music from iTunes converted to .mp3 may not work all the time
- Put music in folders (up to 8 folders and no more than 255 songs in each folder)

Interesting. I'm using a 64GB flash drive and have a couple hundred folders on it, one per album. UC 5.0 radio in a 2014 truck. No issues yet...

I'm not the only one using a 64GB drive either: http://www.ramforum.com/f51/max_size_flash_drive_uconnect_radios_can_handle-108317/#post1570582

Yeah, I'm using a 200 GB USB spinning hard drive in my truck with no issues. 100's of folders. I'm actually surprised the USB port has the voltage to spin up the drive.

Granted, it does take a few minutes for the 8.4 to index all the folders, but it works. Shuffle, skipping, folder browsing, all work with no issue.

One thing that really REALLY ****** me off is the lack of FLAC support. Even high bitrate MP3 just sound like garbage to me. I rip my CD's to FLAC and then have to convert them to MP3 for use in the truck.

I haven't tried it, but I wonder if I can stream FLAC audio from my Plex server. I'd still suffer from bluetooth compression though. Probably sound worse than the MP3's.

OP, you can also press and hold the volume and browse knob buttons to reset the headunit.

Thanks, RamCares,
I was actually using a 16gb drive, which at the time was working fine, for the 1st 2 hours.. The USB was not password encripted. Yeah, I did notice I had some other type music files in there, and thought that was causing it... I since have changed the format of those files to all MP3 files on the drive. I also tried a different USB, to no luck... But, and let me start a new parragrapg here...

I have finally figured out wnat was going on... or at least I thought... I had about 1,350 files in the USB, separated in many folders... I thought the sheer quantity of them was the issue, so I separated them into 2 USB's... Pluged one and it worked properly. Pluged the other, and it failed... So I then thought maybe there was a corrupt file. I took all the files on the drive that failed, and put 1 folder at a time into it... Sticking the USB into my truck's usb port. Each time it worked... Untill I got to a specific folder... Then I wiped everything from the USB, and only put that folder into it, and suck it in again. It failed... So then I took it back to my computer, and I moved the songs, a group at a time into the USB, inserting the USB into the truck each time a new group was added... till it failed again... Then I took just that group and inserted song by song, till I reached a couple of files that would cause the USB to fail... Turns out, it was one single MP3 that was causing all the trouble... It was a long one too, 1:15:00 long (Hour and 15 mins). I then took that file out, and reinserted all 1,350 (+/-) dsongs back in, and guess what? Its working smoothly now! WHo would of thunk, 1 file could ruin everything?

Anywa, thanks yall for the help, and in case it helps someone else, Thats the process I went thru.

Thank you for sharing how you figured this out (it was not easy!)--I'm going to pass this on to my Uconnect contact to show how ingenious you are!
