I was thinking about adding some lights to my steps. And I know a lot of people just tie it into the cab lights or put a relay and a switch. Is there a way to tap into the door switch that tells the truck the doors are open. Even if i have to do that per side I wouldn’t care. I just don’t want to use the cargo light to tap for the relay for the step lights. I do use my cargo light here and there and don’t want the steps lit up while I’m using the cargo light

What year is your truck? I have a 2016 Express... doesn't come with footwell lights, but the wiring is there for it

What model truck? I'd be willing to bet the wiring is there for you.
What would you like pics of?
There is a thread on here somewhere, about adding footwell lighting. It tells you where to look for your footwell wires... drivers side is taped to a harness under your dash, passenger side is a little more tricky to find.

I ran the step light wires in a loom behind each tire well...passenger side then across the back of the engine compartment. Spiced them together, then ran a positive and negative through the firewall and spliced them to the drivers side wiring. It really wasn't all that hard.
Send a PM if you need to...happy to help

Express model. Same as you. I may have to look into the footwell light wires. That would be really convenient to have.

Only a year and a half later. I ran a relay off the cargo lights to power the steps for approach lights. Also added some led tape light for the bed
