I got a used rer factory head unit .it does not power on .only function is the open/close. How do you program with supplied vin ,does it need dealer service to operate?

This was from lkq , came out of a jeep Cherokee. It plugs in but does not power on. I read online I would need the Jeep vin .

In 2010 you didn't need the vin to get the security code to unlock the radio when swapping from another vehicle. Try disconnecting the battery for 10-15 minutes and see if it resets the radio.

I googled your problem and most everything I've read says that pulling the negative cable off the battery for a few minutes fixed it.

Google the part number of the radio and research to see if it a low or high speed bus radio, I've seen more than one place getting it wrong

Yes, it sounds like a bus mis-match.

The earlier Grand Cherokee ones share the mounting pattern with the RAM so they'll bolt in, but they're low speed bus (RAM is high). The later GC ones are high speed, but they don't have the right mounting points.

I also believe the RHR replaced the RER in the GC when they changed the bus speed and mounts, so I don't think there are any RERs from a GC that will work, regardless of ****.
