I have no clue as to what this is. I'm trying to solve my hood ajar issue. If anyone can shed some light as to what this is and or a part number that'd be appreciated. It looks like a sensor on the top pad of the fire wall, passenger side near the intake.

That is the connector for the under hood light. If your truck does not have the convenience light, that's where you would connect the harness. Mine didn't have the light (2012), and that's where I made the connection.

I agree. It looks like its out of place though? Was your truck in an accident? Sometimes autobody shops put things back where it is convenient.

No it's positioned correctly, or it appears to be in the photo. It's mounted to a trim piece via a plastic anchor attached to the connector.

I was wondering what that was too. I assumed it was the light connection but I was sure. Mine looks exactly like OPs. So did the other trucks I looked at at the dealership.

I always wondered why they didn't just put the light in there instead of making people pay extra for one

Agree with @baum. The hoodlatch assembly contains the sensor for the hood ajar trigger. Very easy to replace and pretty cheap.

Probably the same reason they didn't shove a cabin air filter in the truck too. My guess is $$$$$$$
