Good choice on the Knukonceptz, I've been really happy with their stuff. Very flexible wire and seems overall to be of great quality.

Are you planning to use your head unit's volume control or a volume control on the LOC?

Using the LOC for the bass correction at volume so hoping to use the head unit......however, if I need to adjust the bass real time the amp comes with a remote bass knob.

What are the dimensions? I am going to build a box and want it to fit in the plastic bin like you have. Does it get in the way of reclining?

I'll get some measurements on it tomorrow for ya.........have not mounted it yet but my idea was that it would not effect the seat reclining.....but we will see once she's in there.

sorry for the tardy response brother:favorites13:

Final specs are:

25" wide, 15" tall, 9.5" deep slot port tuned to 32 hertz.

ok ok ok............think I've got the final plan in place.........basically instead of installing the audio system in my RAM while on vacation I hung cabinets in the garage and painted it while I did more RAM specific audio research...........hopefully this will minimize snags. :pp:

After much reading, several emails, online detective work, and some testing..........here is the plan as I believe it will work:

HU = Stock RA2 U-Connect 5.0
Kicker KSC 3.5" coaxials in the dash under stock HU power
Kicker KSC 6x9 coaxials in the rear lower B Pillars under stock HU power

So the difference here is I'm going to run the KSC 6x9's physically in the rear speaker location but receiving the signal from the front speaker output that would normally power the front door 6x9 speakers. I will in effect just leave the rear speakers disconnected.

I verified today that disconnecting the rear speakers does not inhibit the signal to the four front speakers......that's a good thing because that will allow me to run the Audio Control LC2i prior to the factory 3.5/6x9 split without the need to run "add-on" resistors (theory)

From there I will run two sets of RCA outputs from the LC2i. One set to the Pioneer 8601 mono amp powering a Sundown SA-10 subwoofer. The second set of RCA's will go to a Pioneer 8604 4channel amp powering some Pioneer TS-D1720C 6.75-Inch components.

And that should do it :favorites13:

Have you heard those Kicker speakers in person? I am not a big fan.... they need power to sound half way decent. I would not recommend running them with low power. Also running rear speakers with the front output is going to mess with your staging and you will loose fade (in a way).

For what it's worth, I couldn't get dash speakers to blend well with my components in the door and sail panel. Much better without them in my truck.

More does not always mean better, especially when it comes to car audio.

I suppose I could use the line level inputs to 2 channels of the 4 channel amp to add some power to the dash speakers if needed.

Thanks for the dimensions. I have a ghetto set-up right now with quality equipment. This inspired me to do it right. I am excited! I plan on running:

Morel Virtus 6.5 separates ran by a Zapco 3.0X2 (Symbilink of course)
DNX9140
2 JL 10W3 in a sealed box

Right now I have the head unit installed to stock speakers and the amp bridged to one 4 ohm JLW3 in a crap walmart box. Sounds like poo poo. I'll update pictures when she is done!

No unfortunately I have not......but I do have a few options that I may end up testing at the time of install I'll only be using 2 channels of the 4 channel amp for the components.

the only real speakers I have listened to that i would be familiar with are my last set of boston pro 6.5 comps which were fairly awesome but I remember the tweeter was Very bright IMO.......for this budget build i was thinking the silk dome tweeters on the ks's might sound a little softer.......

do you have a specific recommendation? I believe I can return the ks's if it made sense to do so........
what about running the ks dash speakers off amplified power?
I plan on leaving the pioneer component tweeter mounted in the original 6x9 location vs the more popular sail panel location.

Personally, I would bridge the components off the 4 channel and leave the rears powered off the stock head unit. I would get everything done except the rears, take a listen. Then do a quick swap to the 6x9s and see how it sounds. If you don't like it, swap them out, if you notice no difference, return them and get your money back (possible with juice going to the fronts).

I would also recommend getting everything wired up except the tweeter, and move it around from the door, to the sail, to the dash, to see where you like it best before you making a permanent decision.

I wouldn't use the 3.5s at all with the components. You are going to have sound all over the place and while I never heard the 3.5" KSs, (I have only worked with the 6.5 and 6x9) they are not even close in quality to the Pioneers. If your goal is just to be "loud" then I would say "try" it out.

A fair amount... IIRC, I used 2 boxes of Stinger Roadkill CLD, 2 boxes of 1/4" Dynaliner, and 1 box of 1/2" Dynaliner.
Pretty high coverage in most places, except I did not do the headliner.

Here some pics:

I did some on the floors and up behind the dash, though the factory stuff isn't bad in some areas under there.

Oh, and I also did two layers under the hood, which cut the engine noise down...

Basically, if idling at a stop light or cruising at 50mph, there was no engine or exhaust sound audible in the cab. Only under acceleration.

I didn't even realize the boxes were slot ported?! Where? I didn't see a slot at all! I would love to see more pictures and get some more detailed measurements. I was going to make sealed boxes since all I listen to is rock. :roflsquared::flipthebird::roflsquared:

Internal bracing....only one side was complete when i took this:

20150220_1740482_zps7ojfurfv.jpg

Exterior before bondo:

20150221_1433242_zpshxkb4eii.jpg

I basically cheated and used off the shelf poplar from home depot to establish the internal width of the box.
