Does anyone know what this is, and where it goes? I replaced my heater core this week and I dropped the steering wheel and removed the dash. When I put everything back together, I noticed this hanging down. I ran my truck up and down the road, testing the heater core connections, ect. And after the truck had been running, this part was very hot. I don't remember seeing it before I disassembled the dash. The black box is the trailer break.

Any help is appreciated, for sure !!

Looks like maybe part of the shift interlock? Take a look at the shift cable near the upper part of the column.

If you can find a wiring diagram online, you should be able to find out what it is using the location and the wire colors.

Thanks for the reply's. I did unplug it and everything seems to work fine. No dash lights coming on, no codes. I have not run the AC because it is cooling off up here, that's why I did the heater core. Also, I have not recharged the AC system, thought maybe I would wait till spring to do that? Opinions? :help:

jwheeler nailed it. Looks like it's part of the Brake Transmission Solenoid Interlock. Follow the cable that comes through the firewall and up the pass side of the steering column. Here's a pic of mine looking up and back from under the dash.

And yeah, why not wait till spring to charge your a/c.
