So apparently my truck DOES have an alarm, it scared the bejeezus outta me last night... But, the guy I got my truck from didn't give me a key fob. Just the one main ignition key... So, my question is:

Can I get another key fob and program it to my truck?

Or should I just wait and upgrade my alarm system entirely?

You can add a new fob but you have to take it to the dealer since you dont have the original one

The best one is the 5901 or something like that. I have the 5701. The difference is the key fob. The 5901 has a display, while mine just have lights. Both are two way to let you know when it locks and it goes off and what not, just the display that's different. Also, the 5701 is only 2000 feet while the 5901 is a mile. Also has remote start, which is really nice.

Get the dealer to check and makes sure you dont have the ignition lock out like dodge used for awhile. I have 2 coded keys and one valet, if the valet key is used accidently the truck will lock up for 4 hrs no matter if the coded key is used next or not.

They were calling it the Centry system for awhile and using grey keys.

Yep same as mine, our 05 that just has remote doors has a black backing to it and is not as thick.

Possibly, the dealer might have just used the expensive one for some reason. I would deff check into it though and see what they say.

You have the sentry key and that means you have a full alarm. The grey keys arent cheap. I had that in my dodge car and no reason to buy another alarm sice it would do the exact same thing as a aftermarket would do. Pretty much a waste of $$$$. I had the black key in the durango so then I went with an alarm/remote start setup

But it sucks cuz I don't have the key fob.... I wonder how much it'd be to just get the fob vs the Viper alarm? I like the proximity factor of the Viper where if people are even lookin in the window it chirps..

I know for my truck it's $250 just for a new key and fob, but yours would only have the fob, so not sure. Unless your factory alarm is different than mine, then the Viper would make a big difference. The alarm on the viper is annoying as crap and loud, which in this case is good, and it has things that can be added on. Also, I like how it will warn me on the key FOB that my alarm is going off.

These trucks will also go off, have you ever had your windows down but the doors locked and just reached in the door and either pulled the knob or handle? It will go off and not shut up till you put in the coded key.
