The polk looks like a good option. Your box having only 6.375 mounting depth is now your limiting factor on what subs you can go with. You basically need low power (small magnet) or shallow mount 12" subs. I would recommend RF, but since hat is what you just had an issue with, get the polk they make good ****.

i love my door speakers they are polk , they sound great , so i figured to try the subs

butch , will the 4ohm polk i have listed work out ? it calls for .88 ft of air space same as my box and will fit

no because that sub is 4ohm with an rms of 425 watts. If you wire that amp at 4ohms you will only get 200 watts. You would want that sub as either a 2ohm SVC or a 4ohm DVC.

Many moons ago I had some Polk DB subs. They sounded good and held up well.

Shallow work well, BUT if you had more depth available I think you could get a better sub for the same price what would be crisper and just sound better. But shallow subs have improved drastically over the years.

Yep.

Then turn down the gain on the amp to about half or a little less than half way. Turn your stereo up to about 3/4 max (your door speakers should not be distorted). Then slowly turn up the gain on the amp up until the sub just starts to distort, then back it off (usually about 1/4 turn).

also start with the bass boost low....that can easily start to cause distortion

Cool. I was just making sure, you would be amazed how many people I have seen install their system, turn the gain and bass boost all the way up, start turn their radio on and crank it. Then the wander why it blows the subs or sounds like ****.
