It temporarily stores power like a battery giving the amp smooth clean power and as an added bonus when the sub pounds it will not dim the lights on the truck as much as it normally would.

ya i don't get any dim i have a 1.5 farad cap on a 600w amp, witch is way over kill. Usually 1 farad for 1000W's of power
the cap also has a read out so i can see the voltage

If you are using big enough wire there should be no dim. I have none on my 800W amp with my 12

yes wire is important but it also depends on your battery size, alternator size, number of accessories on etc. if you are stock (meaning not running dual battery's or larger an stock battery), try turning everything on in your truck and crank your bass i bet you will dim,
also is your amp 800 rms or peak? it makes a huge difference
mine is 600w rms

and you battery can not discharge as fast as a capacitor during heavy bass

give this a read its good stuff

No its not quite as high RMS, but I have an optima yellow top and 6month old alternator. I use my bass with my headlights and driving lights on and it NEVER dims. I have heard many mixed opinions on the use-fullness of caps but im not gonna get into that.

Im still trying to figure out how much bass everyone needs to have, I have one 12 and never need to crank it to max lol

can't argue with personnel experiences lol

ya my 1 12 does me pretty good.
i guess i'm comparing it to my old car, it really dimmed until i put the cap on, i just transferred that system to my truck, i like to think it helps. If anything it stabilize the signal abit lol

All my gauges use to dim really bad when the bass would hit and the headlights on. But it was just the 3 year old battery and corroded terminal, got a new battery and new terminals and everything is dim free :)
