Hello ,,I have no radio when the key is in the accy position. Also the steering wheel does not lock when the key is removed. Not sure if the 2 issues are related. Anyone have a solution to this problem? Thanks in advance.

I have a guess, but I'd like to ask a couple of questions first. You're relatively new here, so I'm wondering how well you know the vehicle.

1) Are these issues new?

2) Is it something you just noticed?

I'm not entirely sure what an SSV is, exactly. I'm guessing some sort of fleet vehicle, possibly LE-related. Given that, I'm thinking this is a deliberate build configuration. I remember reading about some police car (want to say it was a Ford Crown Victoria) that had a feature of being able to start by twisting the "ears" of the ignition.

Uh, let's try this again. I know what the abbreviation "SSV" means. I simply don't know what merits the appellation. And therein is possibly the answer. Never mind; I looked it up and it's some police truck, like I thought.

You never answered the questions about the problems. It's really necessary in order to figure out if something is broke or it was made that way.

Well, there are two possibilities.

1) It's a deliberate build profile for the application

2) Something is defective

The first thing I would do is remove the center dash panel and pull the radio. Next, detach the harness from the radio and test the connector pin-outs for power while the key is in ACC.

Try that and see if the circuit is powered. If not, you'll have to find the Body Builder wiring schematic for your year and follow the wiring through the involved circuits. Or you may find that the wire is hot and the radio is bad.

Thanks for the reply. The radio works, Just not in the accy position. Could it be a bad key switch? Steering wheel does not lock either. Thank you.

If your ignition switch is supposed to lock-again, IDK if it is, given the nature of the configuration-then it wouldn't hurt to replace it for that reason alone. However, that might not have anything to do with the radio working in ACC so the affected circuitry still needs vetting.

This is an old police truck and surely had some custom wiring for accessories like lights or radios. It's really tough to say without knowing the history of the truck.

Have you checked your fuses? There is usually a fuse for the accessory circuit on the older trucks.

Open up your fuse box and look on the underside of the lid.
