So in this 05 Ram 1500 I'm thinking about buying, i have a cool idea I think. I saw you can buy a new double din bezel, and the accompanying parts to make it fit for 40 bucks.

My idea is to get one of the new Ram touch screen Bluetooth Sirius radios. I'm sure the wiring harness won't be a direct connection since it's from 2 different gens, but has anyone be able to successfully do this?

I could be wrong but i'm not sure it will work since they work on can-bus and your truck is not can-bus

without doing a google search i can't really give you a technical answer on that lol. It has to do with how everything is integrated and components talk to each other.

another thing to consider is that the 8.4 radios are bigger than a double din radio so if you bought the double bin bezel you would have to modify the opening to make it bigger.

If you are talking about one of the 13 and up 8.4 radios unfortunately it will not work for your truck. The CAN system stands for (Controller Area Network) which is how these radios communicate with your truck. Since your truck is not CAN based the radio would not work.

So here is the radio info. I'm pretty sure it came out of a 2010 challenger

Your truck has PCI bus. CANBUS was introduced in Ram pickups in '06; some vehicles (like Dakotas) got it a little earlier. I doubt there is even any interfaces that would allow for full function. And if there were, I'd think they would be expensive.

I think you'd be better off selling it and getting an aftermarket HU that does what you want.

I think your right. I just saw it on letgo for cheap and thought I might be able to sell it for a profit. Looked on ebay and they dont really seem to be selling.

Yeah like they said, there is pretty much no way to make that radio work in that truck. Can bus trucks need can bus equipment, and older trucks can't use the newer can bus equipment.
