Alright guys I had my truck up on the lift to do my exhaust today and knowticed my seering box had some oil on it and I investigated a little more and found it to be coming from the tiny oil filter. I'm going to take it back to the dealership on Monday but I wanted to see what I am in for. I did a search and found that some 13's had a issue with the threaded nipple that the filter screws on to. I couldn't find anyone that has a 14 ( sorry should of specified I have a 2014 ram 1500 express hemi with 10,800 miles) and have had this issue. Am I looking at just a bad mechanic that didn't oil the gasket before he put the new one on, a bad gasket? Or am I in for a actual repair needed for my truck? I'm not worried about it, it's only a few drops and there is barely any on my garage floor and the trucks under warranty just curious what I'm infor on Monday.

I have to add that I check the filter and it was tight.

I'm betting the mechanic just spilled some when he was changing the filter. Clean it all up and see if it comes back. Its tough to change these filters without spilling it on the steering assy unless you use a plastic bag.

I cleaned off the filter I left the oil on the steering box for evidence. My guess is its leaking at the gasket because of not being oiled before it was put on or it still has a the old gasket and the new one put on top of it. I have right at 5000 on this oil change and just knowticed it today and there is a oil spot on my garage floor that wasent there 3-4weeks ago. I have about 4 and half months on this oil change.

Yeah, to just notice it now 5K miles in, I would agree. Not oiling the gasket would make it stick when they go to remove it, but probably not leak. Leaving the old gasket on doubling them up is a classic mistake. I've been doing my own changes and haven't had any problems. Let us know what you find out.

If no one else has had any issue I will probably go ahead and change it. I just didn't want to mess with it and be blamed for the dealerships mistake.

I've only heard of issues on the '13's, and even that wasn't a huge repair. Just a swap of the filter mount.

Get yourself a 1 gallon ziplock bag to put over the filter once you break it loose to spin it off into. It'll make the job much cleaner.

Well reporting back. Changed my oil this morning I had 5k on this one so it never hurts to change it. The oil filter was little tuff to get off so it was definitely tight. There was only 1 gasket and it looked perfect. I checked the makeing surface and it was smooth and clean. The filter took quite a bit of turns to get off and it looked like there was plenty of threads so I don't think it's what's the 13's are having issues with. I will also note that the oil was full and very little on the ground. I just have to chalk it up to a fluke deal. I will keep a eye on it clean up the floor and check it frequently for a few days.

Here is a pic of the oil on the ground.. It's a very small amount.

Just had the same problem with my '14 5.7 hemi. coming up on my second oil change (first was free at dealership 4k miles ago) and out of the blue had a softball size oil spot in the garage and wet oil filter. Couldnt get under there enough in my drive to see if the filter was loose.

Took it to the dealership, they changed the oil and said "it should be fine." no other explaination. I know the '13 had some problems, hopefully this is a fluke.

Hey guys I figured I would update this. I changed my oil and oil filter, and I now have 1000 miles and this oil change and its all dry. I used a wix filter and it sealed good. My only guess is the maybe the dealer didn't oil the gasket before they put it on and it seeped a little. Thanks for all the input.

My tuck at 6500 miles. Has a few thousand left on the oil in it. I'm getting drips on the floor. I checked under and it's from the oil filter area. So looks like a common problem. A $40k some truck with oil spots underneath. Lovely.

Yeah I think it's the factory oil filters I put a wix on and 0 issues. The oil filter is also in a bad spot it's hard to take off with out spilling oil everywhere.

There is a known issue with K&N 1017 and I am about to change my oil. Anyone have issues with this filter, made in MEXICO?

My truck just developed this issue as well. Just posted a thread about it, didn't know this thread existed. 2016, 4000 miles since changed at the dealer. Noticed spotting on my driveway this weekend, and the bottom of the filter is wet. I'm well under warranty, I'm going to let them deal with it (they take very good care of my vehicles) so I want them to check it just it case it's a bigger issue.

My 2013 leaked as well. Dealer changed the oil and I noticed the leak in same spot on steering servo. I got about 3/4 turn on mine and it has since stopped leaking. Wait and see I guess..
