I'd try a new cap; they're not expensive to replace. A bit surprising it only lasted that long but they can lose their seal/go bad.

Sometimes they just need to be replaced after a while. I've had that issue a couple times.

You have a return line that bypasses the fill line to allow air to escape.. there's rubber fittings around that. On my 07 Hemi I had they failed less than 2 years into the lease.. Put the 'asscap' message in the odometer screen.

Could also be the Leak Detection Pump when it goes bad the same light comes on and it happens when the little diaphragm in the LDP dries out and cracks.

This code was a problem with 3rd gens. Mine did it. Tried an aftermarket cap. An OEM cap. Had the tank and filler hose checked checked by two different mechanics. Never figured it out. I put around 40,000 miles on it with it coming on randomly. I finally even quit clearing the code because it just came right back.
