I have a 12 ram 1500 Bighorn with the 5.7, I ran my truck in my fairs truck pull and It kept shifting out of first gear on me. my ? is can I get it to stay in first.

You can keep it in first with autostick. Do you have a column shifter or a floor shifter?

How were you trying to keep it in 1st gear? With the auto gear select?
Also be careful how much you pull with these gasoline 1500's. It's not a diesel and the frame isn't that made as strong as the 2500/3500's. Moved to 4th gen section.

When you have the truck in drive, move the shifter to the left to select 1st gear. The truck then won't shift up unless you shift up to 2nd ect.

I did that but it kept shifting out and I kept shifting it back down

Maybe you are reving it too much and its just up shifting to protect the tranny.

I thought that manual gear select just keeps it in the lowest gear possible for the longest amount of time, until the trans has to shift to a higher gear?

Well if the truck is shifting out of first you prob don't need to be in first anyways

Not sure if a programmer can change that, plus unfortunately the 2011's and 12's don't have tuning options as of yet.

The trans is trying to save itself when it upshifts, kinda like a non tuned truck trying to hold first, it only works till it hits the limiter twice then up to second she goes.

What rpm were you going up to? If you hit around 5600 rpm it will shift out of that gear since that's redline

My friends think I'm crazy for buying a 3/4 ton truck for the manual trans. I had a 2010 1500 with an automatic that drove me crazy with its constant up and down shifts.
