Hey all, I'm purchasing a new ram truck and have heard of people getting lifetime warranties but can't really find any info (price, coverage etc) about it. Is it something that is dealer specific or can be purchased through Ram, or do they even exist? I love all the electronics and bells and whistles with these new trucks but at the same time all that cool stuff makes me nervous! Any help would be great!! Thanx

I received a complimentary lifetime warranty when I bought my 17 Sport. It covers breaks on the engine, transmission, driveline, and rear end. The only thing I have to do is log all my maintenance into the logbook in your manual for the life of the truck and any breaks will be covered

Wow, that's a nice added bonus! That makes me believe that it is probably a dealer specific deal. My dealer offers free oil changes every 7500 miles as long as you own vehicle. It's a little longer than what I'm used to but if that's what they recommend I guess it's ok

Man, all that covered? That's almost tempting me to make a ride up to the dealer.

IF your dealer offers it. My buddy bought a scat pack from a dealer 30 miles away from the one I did and they offered him lifetime oil changes and car washes but made him pay for the lifetime warranty

Should be able to search the dealers website in your area and see what they offer. Mine advertised it in huge letters on their site and signs everywhere in the dealership itself

Genuine Mopar Vehicle Protection Warranty - Save $$ Today

just one place. there are others. this one is safe adn sells FCA factory plans.

big thing is get a Factory warranty. not third party.

Caveat is that when the repair cost more than the value of the truck, they can pay for the truck, instead of the repair.
so those who are thinking new motor at 300,000 miles and 22yrs old can think again.
They will buy your truck for average retail price adn call it good.

still best bet aroudn for those of us who tend to keep our vehicles.

again, always get teh OEM warranty. this site is agodo oen with very fair pricing. there are others but I do nto mess with them, this one is good enough.

EDIT:
Dealer is important. some do nto care about receipts, others are ****. keep yoru records adn receipts, in case there is any question, you are covered.
I have never had an issue with any OEM warranty nor asked for a receipt. Dealer gets only warranty work, never any normal maintenance work.

I got the Lifetime MaxCare when I bought 3 years ago and it's turning to be one of the reasons I'm keeping my truck. I have no interest in owning this truck w/o a warranty. As you say OP, just too much stuff to go wrong.

To echo was GoFishin said, only buy official Mopar warranty. 3rd party aftermarket is not worth the paper it's written on in most cases. Also, there are different levels. The MaxCare is basically an extension of the bumper to bumper warranty. The one a poster mentioned he got for free sounds like a step below that only covers major mechanical.

To make it pay you MUST keep your vehicle for a long period so it's kind of a roll of the dice. Also, it's not transferable as many other warranties are.

You can purchase from any dealer in the US, not just yours. I paid around $2300 back in March of 2014 and that's for the $100 deductible which seems to be the best value.

Was that a negotiated price? Also, it seems it's a 7 year/ 100,000 mile warranty.

I also have a $100 deductible. And yeah mine must be a step below. If I wanted more than just the lifetime powertrain warranty I would have had to pay for it so I opted for free oil changes for 3 years instead since I don't see much going wrong with the truck outside of the powertrain throughout the time I own it ( knock on wood ) this is my 4th vehicle. Ive had a ranger, Camry, and charger I've never had any major failures in any of my vehicles and achieved well over 200k miles on them and one almost 300k miles. Really I don't think I would have paid for the lifetime warranty if it wasn't free.

It's really all about the quality of the product you buy and how you treat it. When I buy a vehicle aside from reviews people give I also look at how many of the old vehicle models are still running on the road or how many you see broke down. There are ALOT of old RAMs still running down the road and I had an amazing experience with my charger RT so I have great confidence in my RAM. I really believe that I will probably not need to use my warranty but I'm glad it's there for added assurance. If someone didn't want the lifetime warranty I'd say you'd be fine without it as long as you are good and maintaining your vehicle. Even something as simple as a car wash can prolong the life of your vehicle

No, that was just the price from a dealer I found online in Michigan. Typical practice from most dealers is to start at about 4K and come down from there. I've heard of people using the online prices to negotiate with their local dealer because they just feel better buying from them (although it makes no difference since it's just tied to your VIN and works at any dealer across the country).

Anyone buying a warranty at the time of purchase NEVER NEVER NEVER take the first number they throw out. Or even the 2nd or 3rd. The best methodology is to just say no the whole time until they stop. Then you know you're close to their bottom. Finance guys make a good portion of their $$ off commission on selling these warranties. It's pretty fun watching heads explode when you don't buy it.

Also, it seems it's a 7 year/ 100,000 mile warranty.

Nope - Lifetime so unlimited miles and time. But, as another poster pointed out, it's only until a repair that's needed is more than the NADA average price of the truck. Then they just give you the money for the truck and they are done.

Buyer beware, there are aftermarket warranties that look similar to Maxcare. They are not the same. Maxcare covers just about everything minus trim, paint, upholstery, etc. The shocks and struts are covered for as long as you own it and repair doesn't exceed cost of vehicle. Check Ziegler for a quick quote, they are known for being the cheapest.

The warranty is though RAM (FCA) and they have different levels of maxcare, one that covers everything mechanical, then power train, ETC.

Good luck.

Mine was right about $3500 for the full lifetime Maxcare. Purchased the truck about 3 weeks ago.
In the last 20 years, I've had nothing but Chrysler. One Ram, 2 Jeeps, and now this Ram. Only issues were caused by me. But I like the peace of mind in this warranty.
