I have been having a horrible time only have 8200 miles and truck has been in the shop 7+ times.

Dodge just updated my transmission software because of acceleration lag and poor shifting

Went on a road trip to Georgia to pick up a trailer from Florida on the way up we averaged about 18mpg.
On the way back we got around 8mpg maybe less the trailer was empty and only weighs 3000lbs THIS TRUCK SHOULD HAVE NO PROBLEM PULLING A FULL TRAILER LET ALONE AN EMPTY ONE.
Also to put a little more salt in the wound it burned almost 3/4 of a tank of DEF fluid. Now the dealer says there are no codes so there is nothing wrong. Am i missing something or what.

Unless your 8mpg return trip was uphill all the way, with a 50mph headwind and a pair of 2-ton invisible gremlins hitching a ride on the truck, I'd say the "nothing wrong" dealer might be full of ****.

Yeah the dealer said they could find no codes and when manager took it for a test ride he says it shift normally.

Arrhhhh

He did mention headwinds that is where i lost it. Frankly at this point Gremlins is more believable.

When i was towing rpms were 2100 at 62-69 mph didnt matter if tow haul button was on or off but it felt better with it on.

Trailer was a empty 20' V-Nose 3100lbs trailer.

Talked to Customer care they said they will try to look into it.

Any chance your brakes on the trailer were stuck or partially stuck? I got almost 14 pulling a 9000 travel trailer to the beach yesterday. Something is definitely wrong.

I have a 2014 2500 with Cummins and a 7,000 lbs V-nose travel trailer. I get 12 Mpg towing it. I do run through DEF when towing it but that varies by how much I'm getting on it and hills.

I am not saying there is nothing wrong with your truck, but box trailers pull like a parachute. It's the frontal area, and tall trailers stand proud of the truck by quite a bit. My '05 CTD got 11 MPG pulling my 7x14 box trailer on a good day.

My 2014 RAM 3500, 6.7 Diesel 4x4 regularly gets 28-29 MPG when not towing and I just came back from an 7900 mile trip with the indicator saying I got an average of 12.8 MPG pulling my 6500# travel trailer. I used 11 gal of DEF in that trip. Empty I seem to getting about 1300 miles per gallon of DEF. This is my experience and I'm a pretty conservative driver.

Most get @ least a 2mpg improvement from deleting.
