I just got my new 2013 Dodge Ram 1500 4X4 SXT about a month and a half ago. Unfortunately, last Saturday (May 18th, 2013) I had an accident with the truck. First, let me point out that my new truck has been infested with software issues since I got it and upgrades available were to be implemented this Saturday (May 25th, 2013) but I didn't quite make I there yet. Back to the accident. The damage seemed to be concentrated on the front bumper area only since the actual line of the truck on the front end has not been knocked out of alignment (ie all panels and hood are working fine and not pushed out of shape). After the accident, I was able to drive the truck home but now, I can only go a few blocks and the 'Engine Temperature Hot' message shows up on the EVIC. Also, the MIL light is now on, a message saying four wheel drive temporarily not available popped up once and this is the important one, a message saying 'SERVICE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE CONTROL' has shown up at least once but now disappeared from the message area (I have pictures). Could this failure have caused my to shoot forward causing the accident. This could save me demerits on my driver's license and added costs. I usually a very conscious driver so I was wondering if this was a possibility and could this be another software bug? Thanks for any input from anyone.

The truck jumping forward and causing an accident will be a hard thing to prove. It is possible the computer recorded the actions but I think they only record a short time frame of information.
Your sensors acting crazy is probably because one or a few got damaged it the accident.
Maybe someone else with more experience will chime in.

Yes, most likely your coolant sensor, a 4x4 sensor, and your TPS sensor have been damaged/have a short. But that's most likely due to the accident.

As far as the truck lurching/surging forward, I have no idea.

Thanks HolyRamBatman. Someone told me that the dealership will probably clear the code and say nothing was found in order to prevent admitting the truck might have been at fault and caused the accident. Maybe my next move will be a letter to Daimler/Chrysler itself. It can't hurt or can it?

Run away truck

I bought a 2013 ram 1500 two weeks ago and saturday while i was coasting to a stop sign the truck when peddle to the medal as fast as it could. i did every thing i could to get it to stop and threw it in neutral with the motor redlining. this almost killed me and my family and the display was all messed up with lines across it and the brake light on. the dealership still has it and cant figure it out.

I was returning home from a short trip on the interstate and I had just made a turn on the street we live on when I heard a ding sound. My wife and I noticed that there was a message on the display that showed, "Service Electronic Throttle Control". It stayed on only a second and disappeared. I didn't really notice any effect to the driving capability, but this is the first time that message has appeared and I notice that there were two similar complaints posted on NTSB Complaints regarding this same message. I think I'll go the the dealership and at least let them know about it and see what they do. I had been using my cruise control on the way back from the trip which I normally do not use and I notie that in at least one of the other complaints filed on NTSB the person was using their cruise control as well. At the time the message appeared on my screen, I wasn't using cruise, but like I said, I had been. I have 10821 miles at the time of this incident and I was travelling approximately 20-25 mph.

Hi rescuejew91,

Have you had a chance to have your dealership diagnose the issue? Let me know if I can help make an appointment.

Hi crperreira,

Did you maybe speak with one of the service writers/advisors on the phone? It's possible they may not have been familiar with the message or understood exactly what was being asked. Did they make an appointment for you to come in and have your truck diagnosed?

Same problem here, except for a brief few seconds, I lost all throttle control. It reset itself, the error message cleared, and I was able to continue.

This one is both scary and dangerous.

Anyone else lost throttle completely, even if for a short while?
