Hey All,

2014 RAM 1500 5.7L (Stock/no lift)

I'm experiencing a click/tick/clunk that is felt in the steering wheel when turning right (reverse and in drive). Most noticeable during slow speed (picture reversing out of driveway or entering driveway).

What I've checked so far:
Steering column shaft/u joints
Lower shock bolts
checked for play in wheel/tire when jacked up (ball joints)
tie rods
front drive shaft U joints
Wheel lug nut torque
overall underside of front end (crawled under and tried to move around various things).

Looking for any other ideas to check out before dropping off at the dealer.

Thanks in advance :)

Have you checked where the shock mounts at the top. Have you checked the steering gearbox and see if it is loose.

Thanks for the reply.

I have not checked the top shock mounts.

Is the steering gearbox what the shaft goes into? If so, I have tried moving that and found no play.

Yeah your steering shaft bolt to it Have you had a friend to turn the steering wheel back and forth and see if you can hear where it's coming from.

Have you checked the pitman arm to see if it had any movement in it.

I had the same issue in my 2014 CC lonestar and in my 2016 RCSB R/T. I only have heard the noise at slow speed (under 10 MPH) when making sharp turns to either left or right (typically in my parking garage).

Not only do I hear this clunk, but I can feel the vibration of it as well through the steering wheel and gas pedal. (it seems it has to be something in the steering?)

Did you gets this resolved, I've had the same problem for a while now the dealer didn't know too much about when I brought it in for other stuff earlier this year.

To me it feels more so in the steering

I have a slight clunk in my steering wheel at times too on my 2014. Stock front suspension. Almost feel like it has something to do with the steering shaft or steering column.

Hi VB712,

Has your dealership addressed the clunking for you?
