Hi, I tried searching for this issue but couldn't find any posts, so if this is already covered please let me know. I have a 2012 with the ignition that starts the engine for you once you tip the key (don't know if there are 2012s without this feature). Every now and then, and more so recently, the starter stays engaged for too long. After the engine has already started I can hear it grinding for about a half second. Since this is an intermittent problem, I wanted to check if anyone has had this issue and knows a potential cause, before I take it to a shop and they charge me for nothing because they couldn't get it to do it there.

Hi CVMA Lonestar,

I checked to see if I could find any TSBs or STAR cases for your model year. The only STAR case I found was very a no start concern, which involved cleaning and securing loose connectors. If you decide to work with your dealership, please feel free to send a private message to let us know, and we can also reach out to the dealership while your truck is in service.

This sounds as your starter is not retracting fast enough when the engine fires up.
It happend to me that the starter motor stayed connected to the flywheel while driving for some miles and this turned the starter motor in to a generator and this melted some of my cables.
In my case there was some oxidation who blocked the starters axle to retract and opening and cleaning the starter motor solved the problem.
Have this checked immediately by a mechanic who repairs starter motors!
