Ok guys and gals. I'm askin for a buddy of mine. He called me with an issue I hadn't heard of on the 4th gens. So seeing if anyone else might have an idea.

So here goes:
2009 Ram QCSB 4x4 Hemi

Driving down the road just dies. Pulls off tot he side of the road. CEL is on but can't read the codes yet. Can't exactly take it to get the codes read as it won't start. Turns over but won't fire. Hal electric and everything. Any thoughts?

Did it stall or sputter before it died and will it start? Has he checked the battery voltage, or read the voltage display.

Is it still be under warranty? If so tell him to hurry to the dealership.

Not 100% sure on the sputtering. I asked if it was sudden and he said yea. So I think it just died going down the road. It does crank over but won't fire. Not sure what his voltages say. My first thought was reconnect the battery but he doesn't have any tools to do that. lol

Ok so he said that it just shut off like someone turned the key off. Gonna try to have him read the codes asap. I'm thinking Cam Position Sensor.

Yea this one was a new one on me.

After reading that Trup It may be the crankshaft sensor rather than the Cam sensor. This was all abrupt though. No codes or funny bidness before.

Well I hope you guys find out what the issue is. Probably something electronic is my guess. All these electrical and computer components and new vehicles can sometimes be more of hinderer than a helper.

Yeah I've not heard of this on the Hemi... I've heard this is an issue with the 3.7.

Cam position sensor will shut you down. Hoping for the best for your buddy

Well not a clear cut answer on this one. When I actually got to talk to him not on a text. Lol He said it seemed to not be acting right. The get up and go was there and the go pedal worked it just seemed weird. Then he said it kinda chugged before it shut down. And his description on text made it sound like it was turning over. But he was trying to describe that super fast click the starter does when it gets a bad spot. We all know that sound. But the way he spelled it made it sound like it was turning over. But it wasn't he took it to his favorite shop. Guy crawled under after hearing it and smacked the starter. Truck fired right up.

Still doesn't explain the shutdown though.

Sounds like broken telephone to me lol.

Like you said a bad starter wouldn't cause the truck to shut down...

With yall on the starter.... im wondering if the ETC killed the truck. If it has any sort of failure or out of spec it will cut power.

Outcome?

If guns kill people, then pencils misspell words, cars make people drive drunk, and spoons make you fat...
