Hi guys this is my first post and I need some help. How do I tell what transfer case and fluid I have in my 2011 sport. It has borg Warner all over the case and it has red fluid in it but it is not up to the fill hole so I want to top it up. I have 4wd auto, hi and low with 2wd as well. How does the 4x4 auto work? Thanks if you can help. How do you know if you have the NGV246 case and what did that come in.

welcome to RF. I have not read it, but does your service manual tell you what to use?

The build code is DH8 and I was told its a BW44-44 transfer case. It seems it's not the nvg246 that takes a special fluid so ATF 4 it is I guess. Now my concern is how the 4wd auto works on the sports.

Oh no no no, one queston per thread, we're gonna charge you for the next one! lol. I have a sport model (so too speak), I run mine balls out when I engage . no issue;s I'm sure the 4th gen.s are better. if not the same. Which is good imo.

It seems that the BW44-44 may have special fluid as well. My manuals say nothing about this transfer case so I am still not sure if it is ATF+4 or not .

Transfer Case MOPAR ATF+4 Automatic Transmission Fluid or equivalent.
Transfer Case — NVG 246 Only MOPAR NVG 246 Automatic Transmission Fluid or equivalent.

word for word from owners manual in 09 I assume yours is same ill look I would assume that those of us with auto 4wd would be the second one listed as it is only in a couple trims.

And as far as the 4wd auto, it engages 4 wheel drive when the wheels start to slip.

I've run my auto 4wd several times playing out in the mud and it is awesome, you can run down the pavement one minutes swing off into a muddy field and stomp it the next and it just kicks in and takes hold.

they changed the T-cases in 11 to the BG case which is differant than the previous NV/NG cases.
the 246 case uses a set of clutches instead of a standard chain like most tcases, this allows smoother operation while on more traction controlled surfaces such as poor weather and black ice areas where you need 4wd but not all the time. you can just leave it in 4wd auto and go.

i have no clue as to how the new BW cases are run whether they use clutches or not. ive have an "Auto" t case in all my vehicles since 2007 and ill never go back to a standard.
