New to forum, looking for some help. Truck starts, but then won't go in gear. After several tries (turning key off, and starting again) it then goes into gear, but if put back into park it won't go into gear again. Note blower motor would not work right before this happened, but works now. Any ideas. Thanks in advance.

Sounds like the ignition switch is going bad.

Thanks. I did find another post where this was the problem and I printed the fix. Just seeing if that is what others thought was the problem.

It could also be the brake shift interlock solenoid on top of the ignition issue

Where is that located?

The interlock solenoid is on the steering column. It's what unlocks when you press the brake pedal if I'm not mistaken. Normally you would hear a click noise inside the column when you press the brakes.

I would swap out the ignition first. Then go from there.

Badblackram06 is correct. I was mistaken in my above post and I was refereeing to the brake light switch. My bad.

Everybody is correct, the solenoid locks the gear lever in park. The brake switch has three sets of contacts, one of which sends a sense to the PCM. The ignition switch also sends a sense. When all three are active the solenoid releases the shift lever. The "Intrument Cluster" is also a major plyer as the ign sw and solenoid are directly connected to it. IPM/PCM are also closely associated as sense signals are processed and activated by them. So power comes from the IPM. Sense signals processed by the PCM and Instr. Cluster. Brake, ign providing sense signals to Intr Cluster to complete solenoid release circuit. May need a scanner to figure what isn't working right. Good luck.

Or worse case senario would be to unplug the solenoid and not have the "lock in Park" feature. Obviously this can lead to leaving the truck in gear and being able to turn off the ignition.

Ok Baily1 i'm getting close to ordering parts for my truck. The part # you listed is confusing me just a little. I don't see any electrical parts in the pictures. Maybe they are not shown. I was thinking I had an electrical problem. Please help fill me in. Thanks

The ignition switch itself is costly as i just swapped mine but the electronic pluggin for it is like 22 bucks which fixed my non related to yours problem (radio comes on by itself and or dies. I also have a new ignition switch that was dealer key barrelled on site, so hoping you don,t change the switch itself for nothing and behond that i am no help to you!

Unplugging the solenoid (park lock), Using a multimeter to check for voltage, would be a easy check.
