So I've been dying to buy another Ram even since my 99 1500 LT but it was a money hog. Been checking Craigslist in my area on a regular basis and came across this

2001 Dodge truck for sale. 01 half ton v8 automatic with three inch lift kit. Motor runs great but tranny has issue believed to be the pump. good winter truck or parts. Plus solid front end done with off road parts.

Before I commit or think about this truck, I have yet to talked to the guy cause I'm still trying to sell my 02 Grand Prix. For the Pump what you think it might be and would it be expensive? For $800 body really is in good condition that I can see. Please let me know, Winter is on it's way and would like to buy this truck if it's worth it.

For the pump to be replaced in the transmission, the whole thing needs to be removed and the torque converter pulled out. So you almost might as well rebuild the whole transmission in that case. lol

Rust doesn't look that bad, look as if they tried to keep a handle on it too. I say go over there and look it over.

If a craigslist ad mentions a transmission issue, just assume you will need a new transmission and budget accordingly. Make sure you exercise the 4wd system to make sure it's working right, too.

Thanks guys. Now for your responds on rebuilding the transmission you meant the Automatic Transmission Assembly right? The cheapest place is rockauto that I use a lot and it's $1,884.89 plus the $600 core charge.. is this truck a 5.2 or 5.8 liter. I know my 99 was a 5.9 liter but it was a Ext cab

I would not pay more than $500 for that truck or better yet you take it away for free. To spend $2000 on a beater $500 truck is not worth it in my op. Keep looking find one with a better body that needs mech work.

And this truck right here is gorgeous, just a shame about the engine

I'll keep looking as you said. Only getting $900 for my Grand Prix due to the chassis being rusted

The 04 with a blown motor looks like it is something decent to work with, I would consider buying that for a grand or under and rebuild the motor. It probably has 4.7 in it and depending whether you do it or have it done, it could cost as little as $500 bucks to around 2K. It all depends on what's wrong and how serious it is....spun bearings are no big deal, broken rod hammering the cylinder wall is bad. So, for 3K total which includes a new motor is not a bad deal....try to get the truck on the cheap.
