I have a 98 1500. I was having an issue with my A/C, every time I tend to apply pressure on the gas pedal it will cut the flow from the "head" vents and switch it over to the defrost vents. Then as I release the gas it'll switch back. It used to do it every once in a blue moon but as of lately is been everyday. It seems like it could be pulling a vacuum from somewhere but I'm not positive so that's why I'm coming here to see if ya'll might have a better idea.

Try googling or binging "Dodge Ram wild vents" and you'll find some information. I think one of the check valves or HVAC hoses is cracked but I don't remember.

most likely your losing vacuum somewhere. Start looking for cracked vacuum lines and check the vacuum canister. I had a Safari that did the exact same thing.

If it works fine until you hit the gas, your vacuum check valve is probably busted. A vacuum leak that is that fast after the check valve would leak so much vacuum that the skinny little line that supplies the vents wouldn't be able to keep up.

Attached is a diagram of the passenger side of the engine where the two check valves are located.
