Compressor "shelled" out. Very little oil in comp.

According to manual 6.2 oz. in A/C system.

When the A/C system is new, charged & run, refrig. is circulated thorugh out the system and remains in the acc., evap.,& cond.

According to manual: When replacing the accum. add 2 oz.
When replacing the cond. add 1 oz.
When replacing the evap. add 2 oz.

QUESTION: How much oil needs to be added to the new compressor?

Obvious answer is 1.2 oz...............BUT....not sure.....to much or little oil can do bad stuff.

TIA,

318 or 5.2 which ever you want
Dump the oil out of the old comp into a measuring cup. Usally an ounce and a half is a good amount. Also when you recharge watch what you buy as alot of the cans now have oil added to them, generally an ounce or two per can so make sure you don't put too much in that way.

Thanks for your response. Not enough oil in old comp. to measure.

When I install new comp. will charge with a can of 134A that comes with 2oz. of oil in it.

FWIW; A serpentine belt for a non A/C 2001 2500 diesel wont work on an A/C vehicle. Had to use an A/C bypass pulley. They run about $55 bucks at O'Reillys.

Also, a new comp. on Ebay is $148.00, with free shipping, compared to $279 and up plus tax at O'Reillys or Autozone.
