Here is the situation. I am having a hard time making up my mind as to what I wanna do here so I am just looking for some opinions. I am in the market for a 2nd gen ram. I used to have one, loved it, traded it, regretted it. I am not to concerned about the horrible gas mileage these things get as it is just a fun truck for me. I am trying to figure out what options I wanna look for. It will be a Qcab 4x4 (short to long bed doesn't matter). I am having a hard time with the 1500 vs 2500 5.2/5.9 Vs V10. I dont have a exact need for a truck so a 1500 would suffice. If I ever did want the 2500 axles they are a dime a dozen in my area in junkyard. So i could easily upgrade if need be. Chances are I wont be lifting the truck, maybe a slightly larger size tire. So what would your choice be.

Gonna tow routinely? If so, get the 2500 with the diesel.

Otherwise, get the 1500

If I had the the option I would take the 2500 with a diesel. Fuel may cost more but youll get double the engine life over a gas engine. Atleast thats what I've always been told. (stronger parts will last longer though, only downside is the extra cost in the required hardened tires)

hmmm since you are not set on a particular model, maybe see what is available in your area in the price range you want to pay and go from there.

I'd go with the Cummins... wait, I did go with the Cummins in my 4th Gen. I had a gas 2nd Gen that served me well for many years.
