Hey guys I'm new to this whole forum thing I've been on here to help me with a couple things here and there but never posted. As the subject says I'm wondering what I should do I went out mudding the other night with a couple buddy's and half way through my rear end started banging real bad when I would turn so I took the cover off today and all my spider gears on the left of my limited slip are gone. My plan with the truck is to eventually make it into a play and mud truck for around town and maybe RYC and TCR. So should i get my 9.25 Rebuilt or get a used Dana 70 and rebuild that and swap it in?

Don't waste cash on the 9.25 if you plan to lift and get bigger tires. D60 would be sufficient.

the 9.25 is a good axle but not as heavy duty as a D60 or D70. i know someone personally who hauled a loaded 18 wheeler with a 318/727/ 9.25 combo he worked at travels centers of america and was a diesel mechanic. i know it was a 9.25 because i looked and i have the same axle. for my application where the biggest tire i run would be a 35 the 9.25 is ok for that. anything over 33's on a stock 1500 axle d44/9.25 isn't ideal but it can be done. now if you decide to do lower gears(4.10) and a locker like i have planned then the 9.25 would be good.

I already have 4.10s now and just the limited slip with 33 Federal M/Ts and the limited slip destroyed itself

From factory I think. I changed the diff fluid when I got it like 2 years ago at 120k it looked like it had never been opened

wow, i haven't checked my 9.25. since i work at a parts warehouse i see all kind of dorman gears and spicer. but the good stuff is with yukon. i'm thinking if i can get a good price with my gears at the warehouse i'll do spicer. if not i'll do yukon.

I'm not even gonna waste my money on my 9.25 because I know I'm gonna be getting bigger tires down the road so I'd rather just upgrade now and not have to worry about it lol
