Hi Guys-
I just picked up a 1998 Dodge ram 1500 with a 5.2L (318ci) engine.
The guy I bought it from said the fuel pump is bad.
Is there a way to test this fuel pump without having to drop the tank first?
Thanks in advance

You should hear the relay close and hear the fuel pump pressure up for a second or so when you turn the key on. You could also crack a fuel line and see if fuel is pumped out. To bench test you need to pull the pump, (drop the tank).

Thanks, I'll do that. Funny thing though... the guy just filled the tank.

If you procrastinate and it goes out on you while driving or won't start up you can literally bang with your fist/Palm of your hand on the outside of the fuel tank in the general location of the pump. In the former scenario let it sit for about 10-15 minutes to let the pump cool down. In the latter scenario go straight to banging.

To avoid failure before you are ready to replace, keep the tank full. Those pumps are fuel cooled.
