so today i was testing my 4x4 so i know it works for when it snows and well it broke through the yoke. is their anyway i can take out the short axle so i dont mess it up anymore til i can afford to buy a new yok. pretty much what im asking is can i drive with the short axle piece pulled out. its on the passenger front. its a 97 dodge ram 1500. 5.9 v8

You should be able to. If it's anything like a JK you'll just need to plug the axel tube so oils doesn't leak. If the end of the axel holds on the hub. You'll need to keep that

You can and I'd recommend it to avoid further damage that could happen if the 4WD was to be inadvertently activated.

I would just to keep it isolated. Don't forget to plug the end of the tube. You'll have lots of oil splashing around in the front diff

So this was my quick fix. Forgot to post it. Expandable freeze plug and gasket maker.

Not many scrap yards ever have ram 1500 with straight axles. There all independent.

I'd send ya mine after I finish a single shaft swap if you're still looking at that point. Hoping to get to it this weekend but that's weather permitting
