New Owner- Tips

I recently bought a 1997 Ram 1500 2wd with 135k miles on it. I plan on turing this into my next project vehicle. The thing is I really dont know much about Dodge trucks. I absolutely love this truck and want to know if anyone can give me tips get the best out of this truck now. basically tune up tips. thanks for any advice

I use to own a 1999 Ram I could anwser some questions for you but just as in general make sure the tranny fluid is clean without debrie. That would be my first thing to check. You got to love those Gen II Rams though here was my 2 trucks ago.

As for general stuff to keep it up to date. Get the trans checked. Make sure the bands are tight and it has good fluid. The transmissions on the 2nd gens aren't exactly the most bulletproof trans out there. But if you take care of them they will treat you right. Another thing to check out is to check for oil in the intake. Take the air breather off and open the butterflies and shine a flashlight through the open holes. This will check for a blown plenum gasket; very common issue on the 2nd gens.

Also if you haven't found out already at some point your dash has or will crack. It's a fact of dodge life. you can cover it up but it's usually only a visual issue. Normal tuneups are recommended. That's about it on general maint.
