Swapped my comp from my 318 one to a 360 one. Do I have to go get it flashed now or something? Going to reinstall my 318 one.

They will run odd if not programmed for the engine they are installed with. Year differences are a big deal too. Manual to automatic will throw codes, etc.

Your issue sounds like a year comp compatibility issue. Years that will be MOSTLY interchangeable are 94-95, 96-97, 98-99, and 2000-2001. I say mostly because early 96s can be a bit special with the introduction of obd2 and 98s changed a little in the mid year.

Use that guide and you SHOULD be ok

But no pcm will not affect trans cooling and they don't HAVE to be flashed. The flashing is primarily for VIN, odometer etc. These old things it won't affect the operation

I was talking fuel sync for the programming mostly, it may act a little strange if that is far enough out from what the replacement was programmed to. Not a big issue, but nothing more than slightly worse fuel economy and possibly the occasional lag on hitting the gas.

Pcm isn't programmed with fuel sync. Sync is a mechanical setting. Scanner is used to read it to properly adjust it mechanically

Trans temp light is on because of the year differences in the electronics. He likely swapped across year ranges where the sensors are not compatible. Just my .02

Well then, I grossly misunderstood the service manual.

Yeah it's not a setting that can be punched in with a special scanner. The scanner reads what the mechanical setting is with the engine running. You then manually adjust the distributor itself from there. You can get it pretty damn close without a scanner though
