That is the test for the hub bearings, ball-joints you need a pry-bar to check unless the are a total mess.

To check your gear ratio, go to Dana's website and type in the BOM (bill of materials) number off your differential.. That will tell you what gear ratio is in the axle I believe

thanks merc. any idea why the driver side would already be loose and the passenger side is fine?? just replaced both hubs and all four ball joints a few months ago

Could have just been a bad part from the factory. Does happen.

I don't know what make of parts you used, but I can say this Moog is the way to go for Balljoints and Timkin for hub units. Where I live and the roads I drive with the big tires once a year all of the same parts would need replacing.

i used O'reillys parts just cause my buddy worked there and i got all of it at once which was $900 in parts and his discount knocked it down to $200
