I'm mechanically minded and good with my hands and want to try to repair my loose steering gear, is it safe to do? I dont want to send over $150 on a reman steering gear.

Not worth rebuilding a steering box.

Replacing seals is prob about all you can do

What if i only fixed the problem seal and add to what i need to get the truck all fixed up. The input shaft seal seems to be completely gone now and hemorrhaging on my driveway.

The bore gets worn inside the rack. Not much you can do about that.New seals might stop the leak for a short time, but it'll be back.

4wd or 2wd? Could just check a local parts store. If 4wd there's a 4 total (left and right inner and outer). I was going to order mine, but Oreilly offers lifetime in the Masterpro brand, so that's what I'm going with. Looked at my steering box today, and think that'll need replacing ImageUploadedByTapatalk1453460115.547059.jpg

clean down there just to make sure its actually leaking and not a build up of trash and other things. I have the 4x4, i dont want to order the wrong parts again. I've done it before and havent been able to drive my truck until the parts came back.
