I was looking at the steering column and I see a feature for the shifter. There's a wire with an adjustment knob attached to the column. Is this for the transmission? What's it do. Thank you. New Ram owner.

That is what moves the gear indicator on your dash. The adjustment knob is so you can adjust it if the indicator is not aligning right.

My reverse lights will not stay on when in reverse unless I push up on the shifter and hold it there.
Would adjusting this knob fix that problem or do I have more of a problem?

You have other problems. The switch is not on the column but down on the transmission.
