Put some fuel in it, hoping to go get John123 some more parts for his truck. The new 5/8ths thick clocking ring has not shown up yet, so the 241 install is on hold still/again. Also waiting on my 7/8ths hiem rod ends and weld in bungs. Did some tig welding this week, looks like I can still weld, I did kill a tungsten rod though opp's.

@DD94 Do you have a lead foot or what? Man you get crappy mpg.

Think this ring will be the one this time? You've been having quite the time with it aha. How'd the welding go sir, gonna have to post pics :D Would those parts be part of that kit? :D

What mileage do you usually get Mark, i'm hovering around the same as him with a fresh tune-up and a light foot. Mixture of in town and highway, bout 50/50.

Not really, most times I accelerate off the line much slower than most folks. I actually live in a city that has stop lights every 1000 yd at the minimum. lol
Get up to 45....stop, repeat.

Same as me man haha, except usually I get to 50 km's not miles lol.

Changed out a broken thermostat. The repair manual says to pull the "alternator support bracket". Heed the instructions. It was a PITA to try to work around it. If I could have figured out which bolts secure it I would have taken it off. Now I'm running right at 200 deg instead of the previous 130 deg.
I thought I would change the air filter while I was at it. Found out that the previous owner had put in a K&N. It was almost plugged solid. It took 5 rounds of cleaning to clean things up. With a new thermostat and clean air filter I should be seeing a little increase in gas mileage.

Yeah removing that bracket makes life a little easier lol. I find the coolant bypass hose to be the biggest PITA there aha. Should def feel a good difference in throttle response and maybe a bit of mileage too :)

It better work this time or else lol, I am an expert in xcase r&r for sure now. If this one does not work out I am just going to wait until spring and look at installing a np205 xcase maybe a 203/205 doubler kit.

Yes sir they are more of that kit, he is not home. So I am waiting on a ph call from him then off we go.

Well I have not tiged in a very long time, it took a little bit to get the hand moving in the right manner. They turned out good, zero porosity, I did grind the welds smooth as this is for looks as well as function. I am not one for grinding the welds as I like to show my work, but in this case I did. Pix later.

Well lets see, now that I have all the little bugs worked out of the 60 install, tires aired up to spec, I am back to 16 on the hwy and around 11 in the city. I am like you guy's I nurse the skinny pedal in the city driving, I get treed all the time lol.

Welded in the tubing adapter. 1.75 x.250 wall DOM tubing, 7/8th's x 7/8th's rod end.

I robbed the K&N off of it to put back on the 06 for the winter.

Man only 9 mpg!! I thought my 06 at around 12-13 mpg sucked and I'm not always the easiest on the throttle. My 98 was getting around 16+ mpg this summer and I'm definitely hard on the throttle in it. More than a couple 6000rpm shifts on most tanks :D I do about 30-40% in town the rest is short highway trips.

A buddy of mine that wrecked his 2nd gen had these in his garage and just gave them to me. I plan on wiring them tomorrow and install them. Does anyone know the factory bolt size that hold the fogs in place since mine didnt come with them. I dont plan on running the halo's unless I can figure out how to make them red. I wanted factory ones but these will do for now.

They use like some sort of carriage bolt that is covered by the bumper pad.

My truck went to storage today. So won't be doing much to until the spring now.

I did however fill the empty spot it left in the shop with my 06 on jack stands with a 2nd rear end failure in under a year!! The hunt for a new rear end will start tomorrow I guess

That's the sad part is I'm pretty easy on the 06 compared to everything else I've owned. First failure was the bolt that holds the pin in the carrier snapped and sent the pin into the pinion gear. This time the gears are fine but I had a leaking axle seal. Pulled it apart tonight to find the end of the axle tube is cracked and the bearing has been wearing the end of the tube funny now. So now I need a whole new rear end not just gears this time.

Haven't even put 12k miles on it yet and hasn't even hit the 72k mile mark yet!!

The real scary part is the full list of parts I've had to put into my 06 since I bought it last August.

EGR valve
Wheel bearing
Rear end rebuild
New tire (un-patchable hole in one)
CV shafts
Front axle seals
Front shocks (had to torch them apart to get CV's out)
One lower shock bushing
All 4 ball joints
2 outer tie rods
All new u-joints (these were way beyond gone!!)
Front brake pads
...and now to top it off a whole new rear end

I've been beating on the original rear end in my 98 with double the miles for 5 years and that trucks never missed a beat!! And trust me I'm far from easy on my 98 :D

Shame you live up "there" and have to put the 98 into hibernation every winter...you could just drive that instead. lol

I know I already made that comment to my grandpa that of course I couldn't of found this out during the summer!! Lol I need to buy a third vehicle so I have something to drive in the winter when one is broken lol.

Only good thing is my boss lives about 3 miles away so he can just pick me up for work in times like this.

Besides salt, why you do not use your 98 in the winter? Heater core?

Mostly because of the salt. The load our roads with an insane amount of salt and just about everything rusts pretty bad even if you try and keep it clean (which is damn near impossible). And after all the work I put into cleaning up that truck I'm not going to get it oil sprayed for the rust now which just makes the salt damage 10x worse. The heater core is also disconnected right now since a pipe got bent at the firewall when I did the motor swap. I don't need heat in the summer so I've never bothered to fix it yet.

That and the 2wd isn't a lot of fun in the winter. My old ram use to get stuck at least once a month because of the snow. It's just nice to be able to click into 4x4 and away you go.

I picked up the new 5/8ths thick indexing/clocking ring yesterday, so today is the day. No rain or snow its 39f out time to see if the 241 will now fit. Back in 4hrs to let inquiring minds know how it went.
