I'm looking to upgrade my 01 1500. I've found this.

Matching Dana/Spicer rear 80 (Not dually) and front 60, on a 1 ton frame. 3.54 gear ratio. Out of a 95 Dodge Ram. Coil in the front and leaf in the back. American Racing Mag wheels. The Dana/Spicer 60 needs the vacuum actuator to engage the sleeve to lock the axle. The whole lot, axles, rims and frame goes. $900 OBO

Although I'm not happy with the 3:54 gears I think it's a great upgrade.
Any opinions?

Also I found this.
Used Dana 80 410 gears/carrier
only 5000kms on gears USA standard gearset limited slip worked. $250.

Yeah that 2500 chassis will work. If cab/bed configuration was the same you could swap body over, otherwise axle swap to the 1500 will work

Nope. Dana 70 rear is 2500. Dana 80 rear is 3500. Both come with Dana 60 fronts.
I had an 07 Ram 4x4 Cummins 3500 SRW.
Maybe around you guys you can't get 3500 SRW trucks but around here it's common.

Nope 2500. You're forgetting a manual v10 or Cummins 2500 ALSO had a Dana 80. All 3500s were duallys. Period. There's no such as a SRW2nd gen 3500 unless you do a conversion and the frames are the same. 3rd gens you could get SRW 3500 all day long

So prior to 2nd gen you could and after 2nd gen you could but no 2nd gen. That's ****** up.

Dodge offered the 2500 series in two different gross-vehicle-weight ratings for the first few years, but this was later dropped. The purpose of the difference between the light-duty and heavy-duty 2500 trucks was for the heavy-duty 2500 to take the place of the discontinued one-ton single-rear-wheel trucks. Rear axles for the light-duty 2500 trucks were semi-floating, while the heavy-duty 2500 rear axles were full-floating.
I see.

Still a great swap. $670 US for diffs and suspension and $185 US for the 4:10 gear with carrier. Just need a front 4:10.
If it's all still for sale when I'm ready to buy I'll get it.

I'm actually glad to know this. I'm from the 70's trucks. I know them well. Last was a 79 Ramcharger. Had that around 20 years and modified it so much it was nowhere near stock or even being able to go back near or to stock. Then a 99 Dakota I did nothing to, now back in a real truck. My 01 Ram.

Although sometimes I find you somewhat annoying, I think because it's you are young and you are so knowledgeable about these trucks it irritates me. :roflsquared:
I am learning though. I like these second gens. From what I see here, I've no interest in anything newer.

Would like to go back to carbs and no computer but I know these are superior by far.

Now, although they didn't make a 3500 2nd gen, the 3500 dually is a Dana 80 right?
The 2500 comes with a srw Dana 80 (or Dana 70).
They didn't "class" it a 3500 srw but that is basically what it is. Right?
Although payload is different. Like they use to class them as a 3500 srw with a lower payload/towing capacity than a dually but more than a 2500.

Like in the 70's you had 9 1/4/Dana 44 1/2T, Dana 60/Dana 44 3/4T, and a Dana 60/Dana 60 1T and a Dana 60/Dana 60 dually 1T.

Just basically wording to me. If I stuck a Dana 60/Dana 80 (instead of the 8 lug Dana44/Dana60 in my Ramcharger way back when it would have been a monster and been considered 1T diffs. Although a Dana 80 probably would have been a 1 1/4T diff back then.

Fixed ;)

Yeah the dually is an 80 and the manual v10/i6 2500s were srw 80s. And considering the frames are the same it basically would be the equivalent of a srw 3rd 3500. If yout can't tell I've been known to occasionally get hung up on certain wordings of things. Oops lol.

Edit: i also often get too proud of what i know for somebody who will only be 21 here in about 3weeks

:roflsquared: Nice change.

So, if and when I get these diffs I'm going to put 3500 badges on my doors. Just cause. :happy107: :roflsquared:
