I remember my overload spring having a bevelled punch piece that held it to the spring pack. Just a simple punch punched it out. But I had to remove mine, your 2nd gen might be different.
Just put the frame on jacks and a hand jack under the pumpkin to releave tension, remove the rear tires and unbolt the rear leaft spring shackles. Then unbolt the U-bolts, or just loosten them and you should be able to figure out if the leaf spring needs to come off the truck first or not.
