New to the form here so feel free to tag a post if I missed it, I've heard different stories can you put a bumper guard on a 97 laramie 1500 without frame mods?

Yeah the guard should come with a frame to guard bracket that bolts nicely to holes already in the frame.

You talking like one of these or the little bumper bar that looks like a skid plate?

Either one should have a way of bolting to the frame. But I'd get the install download and check whatever one you like out first.
